Aberlour
unveils 21 and 25 Year Old Single Malts
as its oldest permanent expressions.

Speyside distillery Aberlour
has expanded its core range with the
introduction of two highly aged single malt
Scotch whiskies: Aberlour 21 Year Old
and Aberlour 25 Year Old. Showcasing the
distillery's signature double cask
maturation and more than 150 years of
whisky-making heritage, the new
expressions represent its oldest
permanent releases to date.
The two single malts made their debut at
Whisky Live Paris in September 2026,
offering whisky enthusiasts and
collectors the opportunity to discover
Aberlour's approach to extended
maturation and small-batch whisky
production.
Under the guidance of Master Distiller
Graeme Cruickshank, both expressions
have been created from carefully
selected casks, chosen for their
character and maturity. Released in
limited quantities, these whiskies are
said to highlight the influence of time,
oak and the expertise required to mature
Scotch whisky over several decades.
Aberlour 21 Year Old
Matured for more than two decades in a
combination of American oak and sherry
oak casks, Aberlour 21 Year Old
is said to showcase the complexity that extended
maturation can bring to Speyside single
malt whisky.
Bottled at 48% ABV, it is the
distillery's first annual permanent
release at this age, combining the
influence of different oak types to
develop a rich and layered flavour
profile.
They say that the nose reveals vibrant cherries,
spiced baked apples and rich toffee,
leading to a palate of indulgent
chocolate and warming ginger. A
delicate, lingering spice character
completes the finish.
Aberlour 25 Year Old
Taking the range a step further,
Aberlour 25 Year Old is a particularly
rare release assembled from a small
selection of exceptional, hand-picked
casks, including a first-fill sherry
hogshead.
Unlike the 21 Year Old expression, which
is intended as an annual permanent
addition to the range, the 25 Year Old
will be released in ultra-limited
quantities. Bottled at cask strength and
without chill filtration, it aims to
preserve the whisky's natural character,
texture and depth of flavour.
The tasting profile is said to open with sweet,
fruit-forward aromas, followed by a
rich, luxurious palate featuring creamy
vanilla, warming ginger spice and
aromatic cardamom. The combination of
extended maturation and carefully
selected casks creates a refined
expression designed to showcase the
depth and complexity of well-aged
Speyside single malt.
Graeme Cruickshank, Aberlour Master
Distiller, said: "The introduction of
these 21 and 25 Year Old expressions is
a proud milestone for everyone at the
distillery." He continued: "Having
personally guided the 21 Year Old on its
journey from grain to glass, I know
first-hand the patience, precision and
care required to bring a whisky of this
age to life. It is the ultimate
reflection of what happens when craft
meets time.”
"In many ways, our journey mirrors that
of a master chocolatier. Just as
crafting exceptional chocolate requires
meticulous roasting to unlock deep
sensory profiles, bringing a whisky of
this age to fruition demands absolute
sensory precision and patience. By
meticulously curating these casks over
two decades, we’ve ensured we’ve
captured the wood’s influence at its
absolute peak, creating the pinnacle of
our heritage and the very definition of
Speyside luxury."
Both expressions will be presented in
elegantly crafted display boxes designed
to complement the craftsmanship and
maturity of the whiskies.
With the introduction of Aberlour 21
Year Old and 25 Year Old, the Speyside
distillery is placing greater emphasis
on its oldest permanent expressions,
showcasing the influence of extended oak
maturation and the skill involved in
selecting and marrying rare casks.
