Ardbeg
unleashes The Beithir's Tale, the Final
Chapter in its Anthology Series which is
a creamy, aromatic 15 Year Old creation.
Ardbeg Islay Single Malt Whisky today
revealed the final instalment of its
Anthology series – a rare and richly
layered 15 Year Old limited edition.
Named Ardbeg Anthology: The Beithir’s
Tale, this unique release pays tribute
to a mythical, serpent-like beast and
marks a first for the Distillery:
maturation in bespoke bourbon casks
crafted to Ardbeg’s exacting standards.
These custom casks, air-seasoned rather
than kiln-dried, then heavily toasted
and lightly charred, were designed to
coax out sumptuous waves of smoked
butter and vanilla. Over 15 years,
they’ve melded seamlessly with Ardbeg’s
signature character – infusing the
whisky with soft, creamy textures
balanced by sharp bursts of menthol,
eucalyptus, and pine.
The Anthology series explores Ardbeg’s
wilder side – each expression a fusion
of the familiar smoky core with
unexpected, experimental influences.
Each release in the trilogy draws
inspiration from mythological creatures
said to haunt the shores of Islay. The
Beithir’s Tale, named after a
notoriously ill-tempered serpent once
rumoured to have slithered through an
Ardbeg warehouse, is no exception.
Years ago, Ardbeg’s whisky makers laid
down spirit in these purpose-built
bourbon casks, curious to see how their
smoky, balanced malt would evolve. The
result they say is a whisky at its
aromatic height – opulent, creamy, and
unmistakably Ardbeg.
The Beithir’s Tale joins its
predecessors in the Anthology series:
- The Harpy’s
Tale – a 13-year-old fusion of
Ardbeg and its first-ever Sauternes
cask-matured whisky,
- The
Unicorn’s Tale – a 14-year-old
marriage of classic bourbon-aged
Ardbeg with whisky matured entirely
in Madeira wine casks.
Together, they
form a trio of strange and spectacular
drams – each one a mythical creature in
liquid form.
Master Blender Gillian Macdonald said:
"We are always pushing the boundaries of
Ardbeg to discover even more flavour
combinations. The sweet and smoky
‘hybrids’ of Ardbeg Anthology are as
experimental as they come.
"Created from whisky matured in our
designer casks, The Beithir’s Tale is
the aromatic and sweet finale of our
Anthology series. Named after a
mythological, serpentine beast, this
15-year-old whisky invites notes of
vanilla and smoked butter to slide
through Ardbeg’s classic aromatic
flavours of peat smoke, fennel,
eucalyptus and pine. Rather like the
Beithir, it is smooth and mysterious…
with a smoky, menthol bite!"
Ardbeg Anthology: The Beithir’s Tale has
already earned high acclaim on the
global stage, receiving the Spirit Gold
Outstanding Award (98 points) at the
2025 International Wine & Spirits
Competition, along with a Gold Medal at
the International Spirits Challenge.
Bottled at 46% ABV and priced at £135,
The Beithir’s Tale will be available from
12th August from Ardbeg Embassies such as
The Whisky Exchange
and

Bottled at 46% ABV.
Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Pungent,
oily and spicy. Rich notes of treacle
wrap around creosote and smoked herbs.
Toasted apples and raisins reveal a
sweeter underbelly. With water,
eucalyptus and menthol burst forth as
fennel and pine trail behind.
Taste: Astoundingly
balanced. A sizzling mouthfeel leads
into peat smoke, coffee grounds and
currants. Sweet lemon balm entwines with
smoked mandarins, followed by a sharp,
smoky tang.
Finish: Long
and meandering, with subtle hints of
vanilla and smoked butter.
