Ardgowan
Distillery strengthens financial
position with £18.2 million balance
sheet improvement and new investment.
The independent Scotch whisky producer
has reinforced its long-term foundations
as it advances towards its first Single
Malt release.

In whisky business news, independent Scotch whisky producer
Ardgowan Distillery Company Ltd has
announced a series of significant
financial developments, including the
conversion of £14 million of convertible
loan notes into equity and the securing
of £4.2 million in new funding. The
moves strengthen the company's balance
sheet and provide a solid platform for
future growth as it progresses towards
the launch of its inaugural Single Malt
whisky.
Situated within the rolling Ardgowan
Estate in Inverkip on Scotland's west
coast, Ardgowan Distillery was
established with the ambition of
reviving the style and quality
associated with Scotch whisky's historic
golden age. Led by CEO Roland Grain,
whose passion for whisky and extensive
industry relationships helped bring the
project to life, the distillery combines
modern sustainability with a long-term
commitment to quality. From its striking
architectural design to its distinctive
maturation philosophy, every aspect of
the operation has been developed to
create richly flavoured Single Malt
whisky. Central to that vision are
Ardgowan's pioneering Infinity Casks,
which embody the distillery's dedication
to extended maturation and the influence
of exceptional European oak sherry
casks.
The distillery became Inverclyde's first
new whisky distillery in more than a
century when production began in June
2025. Since then, Ardgowan has continued
to build its maturing inventory, laying
down spirit that will form the
foundation of future Single Malt
releases.
Alongside its signature unpeated spirit,
the distillery recently reached another
important milestone with the first
production runs of heavily peated spirit
during June and July. The new make will
broaden the distillery's future whisky
portfolio and further strengthen its
long-term stock position.
£14 Million of Convertible Loan Notes
Converted to Equity
As part of the company's financial
restructuring, Ardgowan has successfully
converted £14 million of convertible
loan notes (CLNs) into equity, including
£3 million held by Distil Plc.
The conversion significantly enhances
the company's balance sheet while
demonstrating the confidence existing
investors continue to place in the
long-term potential of the project and
its strategic vision.
£4.2 Million in New Funding Secured
Alongside the CLN conversion, Ardgowan
has secured £4.2 million in fresh
investment.
The additional funding will support
ongoing operations, spirit production,
inventory development and commercial
activities as the distillery moves
through the next phase of its growth
journey and towards its first
proprietary whisky release.
Simplified Ownership Structure
The company has also completed a
revision of its shareholder and
investment agreements, creating a
streamlined ownership structure designed
to provide greater clarity, efficiency
and flexibility for future development.
Clear Path Towards First Release
Roland Grain, CEO of Ardgowan Distillery
Company Ltd, comments: "This clean up is the result of an
enormous collective effort from our
investors, our shareholders and our
team. The commitments made by so many
people to support this distillery in the
challenging early stages speak to the
belief that exists in what we are
building here.
"This marks the end of the early phase
of the project, and we are now in a far
stronger position, with a clearer
structure, a strengthened balance sheet,
and a defined path forward. We remain
focused on what has always driven us: an
exceptional wood policy coupled with
long term maturation to recreate the
golden era of European oak Sherry cask
matured Single Malt. Such dedication to
quality requires patience and investment
though, and I remain open to additional
strategic, long term investment partners
as we move towards our goal."
