Ardnahoe adds
a 5 Year Old Cask Strength Edition to
its core line-up of Islay single malt
whiskies.
 Ardnahoe distillery on Islay has
expanded its core line-up with the
introduction of a new 5 Year Old Cask
Strength release.
As whisky season begins to reach its
height in the run up to Christmas,
Ardnahoe Distillery on Islay is
unveiling its third core expression —
the Ardnahoe Cask Strength Edition 5 Year
Old. This young peaty Islay dram has been
bottled at 60.9% ABV, has been crafted
exclusively from spirit matured in
first-fill bourbon barrels and will be
available from Thursday, 30th October.
Priced at £65 (RRP), I haven't had the
chance to taste so I cant comment on its
quality but this release is
said to deliver aromas of coastal brine,
earthy peat, and rich cocoa. The palate
is described as offering layers of
orchard fruits, herbal tea, and salted
caramel, culminating in a smoky finish
with a touch of citrus.
Batch One of an ongoing Cask Strength
series, this release follows Ardnahoe’s
previous core range bottling's — Bholsa,
matured in Oloroso sherry casks and
noted for its fruity, peppery character,
and Infinite Loch, a smoky, zesty whisky
matured in both ex-bourbon and
ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
To celebrate the launch, Ardnahoe will
host a small event at the distillery on
30th October, featuring a tasting
session and bottle signing with
Distillery Manager David Livingstone.
Livingstone said: "The third bottling in
our core range is a very special one and
a significant moment for the distillery.
Cask strength whisky is undiluted -
bottled straight from the cask, allowing
for a more intense flavour profile and
more control for the drinker to dilute
as they please."
Founded in 2018 and officially opened in
2019, Ardnahoe became Islay’s ninth and
newest distillery. Since debuting its
Inaugural Release in May 2024, the
distillery has also introduced several
limited editions, including Manager’s
Selection, The Ardnahoe Society 2024
Release, and Skerryvore XX, created in
celebration of the Scottish band’s 20th
anniversary.
