Review of The BenRiach 10 Year Old.
The
BenRiach 10 Year Old was the first core
range whisky produced from spirit
distilled under The BenRiach Distillery
Company’s ownership, originally launched
back in April 2015, I thought I would
revisit the unpeated BenRiach dram.
Bottled at 43% ABV, non chill filtered
and naturally coloured, the BenRiach 10
Year Old is Classic Speyside in
character. The cask formula focuses on
ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks – exactly
the types of wood BenRiach favour.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Green apple, a little pear, banana, some
gentle sweet coconut and a little
vanilla fudge.
Taste:
The green apple the nose told me was coming
leads, some toasted sweet malt and some
vanilla infused with some delicious
peppery oak. A touch of zesty lemon and
and a little raisin lurking also,
becomes more toffee'd after a few
mouthfuls.
Finish:
The lovely green apple has stayed the
distance, the peppery oak becomes a
little drying with a liquorice edge.
Comment:
A lovely malty and fruity introduction
to BenRiach without the peat and a must
try when exploring what BenRiach has to
offer.

85/100
