Bimber whisky
reaches a new record high, the summit of
Mt. Lhotse in Nepal, the fourth highest
mountain in the world.
Bimber Distillery
has announced that one of its single
malt whisky bottles has reached the
summit of Mt. Lhotse in Nepal, the
fourth highest mountain in the world.
This remarkable feat, accomplished at an
impressive height of 8,516 meters,
surpasses the previous record set in
1993 by an astounding 2,000 meters.
In May 2023, Philip Pinchin, Founder
Member of the distillery, embarked on a
challenging climb of Lhotse with the
noble intention of raising funds for the
medical charity Cobalt. To support this
heroic endeavour, Bimber created a truly
exceptional blend, the "Lhotse Challenge
2023," by marrying three distinct cask
types, including some of their most aged
and exquisite stock. A sample of this
special release accompanied the climbing
team from London to Nepal, and on May
24, 2023, the bottle triumphantly
reached the mountain's summit.
Upon completing the arduous climb, the
summit bottle has been returned to
Bimber and will soon be put up for
auction alongside a full-sized 70cl
edition adorned with a hand-painted
label, aiming to raise further funds for
Cobalt.
Expressing awe at this remarkable
accomplishment, Bimber spokesperson Matt
McKay stated, "We were astounded to
discover that the climbing team had
successfully reached the summit of
Lhotse with the bottle of Bimber single
malt. Similarly to all of the world’s
highest mountains – climbs of this
height are extraordinarily challenging
to undertake and even more so to
complete. To achieve the summit *and* to
take the time to photograph the Bimber
Lhotse Challenge 2023 bottle at the top
is just remarkable. Together with our
generous members and supporters we have
raised over £7,000 for Philip’s charity
climb – achieving the highest bottle of
single malt on Earth at the same time
makes us feel on top of the world!"
