London's
Bimber distillery unveils the Shoulder
of Giants Series, with bottling's paying
tribute to 'Dickens – The Novelist',
'Newton – The Mathematician',
'Shakespeare – The Playwright',
'Copernicus – The Polymath', 'Chopin -
The Composer' and 'Curie - The
Scientist'.

London's Bimber
Distillery has unveiled the inaugural
releases of 'Shoulders of Giants' - a
tribute to the diverse tapestry of
thinkers, innovators, and visionaries
who have left an indelible mark on our
world. Exploring the vast spectrum of
human endeavour and accomplishment, each
release showcases captivating artwork
and biographical details that honour the
achievements of historical figures who
dared to dream and challenged the norms.
Sourced from Bimber's expanding array of
fruit-forward single malt whiskies,
every 'Shoulders of Giants' release is
said to present a unique narrative both
within and beyond the bottle. The
initial offerings are tailored for the
UK market: Dickens, Newton, and
Shakespeare, alongside exclusive
releases for Poland: Copernicus, Chopin,
and Curie.
The three UK exclusives will debut on
Friday, April 26th, through Bimber's
website, each priced at £94.00.
'Dickens – The Novelist' is distilled
from a 1st fill American oak ex-bourbon
cask, celebrating Charles Dickens'
literary contributions. This expression
offers lively sweet tropical fruits, a
velvety honeyed texture, and
harmoniously integrated wood spices, a
testament to the evolving complexity of
Bimber's single malt whisky.
'Newton – The Mathematician' pays homage
to Sir Isaac Newton's scientific legacy.
Crafted from lightly peated spirit, this
release is fully matured in 1st fill
American oak, boasting Bimber's
signature fruit-forward profile with
hints of pineapple and papaya interwoven
with subtle smoky and charred notes.
The final UK exclusive, 'Shakespeare –
The Playwright,' highlights William
Shakespeare's impact on the English
language. Finished in an ex-beer cask,
sourced from the distillery's initial
release of ex-barley wine casks in
collaboration with French brewery La
Debauche, this single malt whisky is
rich and robust. It combines stone and
tropical fruits with creamy caramel,
intricate maltiness, and hints of nutty
umami on the palate.
The Polish 'Shoulders of Giants'
releases will be available from selected
Polish retailers, including Tudor House,
starting from the end of April 2024.
'Copernicus – The Polymath' commemorates
Nicolaus Copernicus and his
contributions to astronomy. This
beautifully sweet single malt is
finished in a single Pedro Ximénez
sherry cask, imparting a delightful
array of vibrant and rich fruit-forward
notes.
'Chopin - The Composer' pays tribute to
Frédéric Chopin's musical legacy.
Finished in a single fino sherry cask,
this release achieves a perfect balance
between the whisky's natural sweet
fruitiness and the nutty, saline
freshness imparted by the fino sherry
cask.
'Curie - The Scientist' honours Marie
Curie's pioneering work in
radioactivity. Finished in a Spanish
Oloroso sherry cask, this single malt
boasts a deep colour and rich flavours of
fruitcake and chopped nuts.
Speaking of the launch, Bimber’s Matt
McKay said: "Our whisky making
methodology is to take the learning of
the past and to adapt it to make the
whisky of the future. As such, it is
entirely fitting for Bimber to be
looking to historical figures who have
shaped our societies and
consciousnesses.
"The Shoulders of Giants releases not
only pay homage and celebrate the
achievements of national heroes – they
also demonstrate the growing maturity
and complexity of our single malt
whiskies, which are proving to be
increasingly versatile in a wide range
of cask types and styles. Going forward
we have many more giants to explore, and
we’re looking forward to telling their
stories."
Each of the six 'Shoulders of Giants'
releases was meticulously crafted to
meet Bimber's stringent standards. The
spirit was created using the
distillery's single farm barley, malted
on a dedicated floor at Warminster
Maltings, and then fermented for seven
days in custom, on-site constructed
American oak washbacks. Distillation
occurred in Bimber's directly fired
copper pot stills, renowned for yielding
a deeply layered and notably
fruit-forward spirit.
