Loch Maberry Stories Of Bladnoch Chapter1

19th March 2024
Bladnoch unveil Chapter 1 of Loch Maberry Stories of Bladnoch, a new limited edition series. Chapter 1 is single cask no. 89, a first fill Californian red wine hogshead which was distilled in 2008.

Loch Maberry Stories Of Bladnoch Chapter1Bladnoch, the southernmost distillery in Scotland, has unveiled Chapter 1 of Loch Maberry: Stories of Bladnoch, the inaugural release in a new limited series honouring and curated by individuals deeply connected to its whiskies.

Loch Maberry, the origin of the River Bladnoch supplying the water that has nourished Bladnoch Distillery since its establishment in 1817, lends its name to this series as a tribute to those who cherish Bladnoch’s distinctive Galloway character and contribute to the distillery's legacy.

Chapter 1 of this series pays homage to Mr. Arnold, an enduring admirer of Bladnoch whose fervour and dedication epitomise the commitment of the distillery's skilled artisans. This release also marks the initiation of the selection process for Chapter 2, which will take place on Bladnoch's website.

Mr. Arnold's affinity with Bladnoch blossomed during his time owning a residence in Garlieston, near the distillery, in Wigtown, Dumfries, and Galloway. Intrigued by single malt Scotch, he ventured to the distillery for the first time. Impressed by Bladnoch's meticulously crafted whiskies and the traditional craftsmanship behind them, he soon became a regular visitor, deeply admiring the distillery's staff.

In acknowledgment of his years of dedication, Dr. Nick Savage, Bladnoch's Master Distiller, invited Mr. Arnold to be the inaugural member of the extended Bladnoch family to select a cask for bottling. Under Nick's guidance, Mr. Arnold meticulously nosed and tasted various samples before choosing Cask 89. Distilled in 2008 and matured in a first fill Californian red wine hogshead, Chapter 1 of Loch Maberry: Stories of Bladnoch is said to reveal delightful notes of fruity blackcurrant jam, ginger, and herbs, culminating in a sweet and warming finish.

Mr Arnold said: "It is an honour to be the story of Chapter 1. Spending time with Dr Nick Savage, the Master Distiller, and learning about the process of cask selection was remarkable. His focus is on taste first, and I admire that.

"The sweet and warming flavours of the whisky we chose tell the story of my Bladnoch journey, and how welcome I have always felt at the distillery. Its richness reflects how my Bladnoch experiences have enhanced my life."

Dr Nick Savage added: "Helping Mr Arnold to explore our casks and find the right one to capture his Bladnoch adventure, was incredibly rewarding and an experience I will never forget.

"As we blind-tasted and compared samples, it was a joy to see whisky making through his eyes and interpret what Bladnoch means to him. I look forward to selecting our next supporter for Chapter 2 of this unique series."

Bottled at a very flavoursome and robust cask strength of 56.7% ABV, Chapter 1 of Loch Maberry: Stories of Bladnoch boasts a natural bronze oak hue and remains unaltered by chill filtration. It comes elegantly presented in a specially crafted box that includes personal letters from both Mr. Arnold and Dr. Nick Savage, detailing their collaborative journey in creating this whisky.

Priced at an RRSP of £150, Chapter 1 of Loch Maberry: Stories of Bladnoch can be purchased exclusively from Bladnoch.com for customers in the UK.
