Sands 17 Year Old
Fans of Bowmore Islay malt whisky will
want to dust off their passports this
summer as Bowmore has launched a new
travel retail exclusive range. The names
of the whiskies in the new range have
been inspired by Bowmore's extraordinary
island home off the west coast of
Scotland, the whisky island of Islay.
At the heart of the new look range is
the Bowmore Black Rock, a rich sherried
single malt named after the jaggy
outcrop that's clearly visible in the
bay across from the distillery, which
has stood on the shores of Loch Indaal
since 1779. Matured predominately in
first-fill ex-Spanish sherry casks,
Bowmore describe it as a delicious
balance of peat smoke, treacle toffee

The next new addition to the new look
Bowmore travel retail exclusive line-up
is the
Bowmore Gold Reef which was
matured mostly in first-fill ex-bourbon
casks and Bowmore describe as having
notes of vanilla, citrus fruits and
coconut milk.
One more step up the range and you find
the
Bowmore White Sands 17 Year Old
which is not a new addition to the
Bowmore travel retail range it is simply
the existing 17 year old being brought
into line with the new packaging which
has been inspired by the distillery's
island home.
Still sitting at the top of the Bowmore
travel retail range is the
Bowmore Spring Tide which was
launched back in 2012.
You may have noticed that I haven't
mentioned the excellent
Bowmore 100 Degrees Proof, sadly I
have to report that this is being
discontinued and perhaps not so
surprising the Bowmore Surf and
Mariner 15 year old will also suffer the
same fate but personally it is the
Bowmore 100 Degrees Proof which I shall
miss. If you do like any of these three
whiskies then I would advise you to pick
up a bottle if you see it next time you
travel as once the airports have sold
their current stock they will be be gone
forever or at least until they pop up at
a whisky auction for 2 or 3 times the
price.
