Bowmore Small
Batch now available globally including
nationwide in the US.
Initially
launched in the UK back in May 2012, the Bowmore
Small Batch Reserve, or Bowmore Small
Batch as it is now known (they appear to
have dropped "Reserve" from its
title),
will now be available globally including
the US from this month.
Over the past few years it has seemed
like the US marketplace was partly
immune to the influx of No Age Statement
whiskies we have seen launched in
the UK and Europe but it looks like a
few of the big Scotch whisky companies
now feel confident enough to head to the
US marketplace with their No Age
Statement whiskies.
The Bowmore Small Batch is one of those
whiskies.
Exclusively matured in first and
second-fill ex-bourbon casks, and
bottled at 40% ABV, the Small
Batch has a very gentle Bowmore peat
smoke character, citrus and
sweet vanilla. An easy to drink Islay
dram for any experienced whisky drinker
and a gentle introduction to peaty Islay
whisky for anyone new to peaty whisky.
Rachel Barrie, Morrison Bowmore
Distillers Master Blender, says, "If I
could select only one dram to transport
an enthusiast to Islay, it would be
Small Batch. No one liquid better
showcases the tranquillity and elegance
of the Island."
Crafted from two different types of
bourbon cask which are married together,
Small Batch exhibits the best qualities
of both: First-fill ex-bourbon casks
imparts a delicious vanilla sweetness,
subtle spices and a bourbon-style oak
smoke, created by charring of the barrel
in the bourbon production process. The
second-fill ex-bourbon casks impart
fruit and salty flavours which enhance
Bowmore Scotch Whisky’s fresh fruity
complexity and its trademark honey and
creamy malt character. The result is a
gentle Islay single malt that is well
balanced between salt and sweetness.
Bowmore Small Batch is now available in the UK and the US and will
be released globally as well. It will be
a permanent addition to the Bowmore core
range of Scotch whiskies.

Bowmore Small Batch Reserve Review
|
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: An elegant aroma of
vanilla, mild sea-salt peatiness, some
pepper and spice, hint of violet.
Taste:
Light zesty lemon, a hint of cinnamon
with creamy vanilla and oak. Light,
sweet mouth coating smoke which shows
itself more after a few mouthfuls.
Finish: Lingering and slowly
drying. Sweet vanilla, lemon and lime,
oak spice.
Comment:
Undoubtedly a Bowmore but a lighter
Bowmore although it does become smokier
after a few mouthfuls. Really very easy
to drink, I would have loved it to have
been bottled at a higher strength just
to give a bit more punch than its 40%
gives, nonetheless a very easy to drink
light Bowmore.
I was told that the first small
batch was a release of 5000 cases, so by
my calculations that was only
30,000 bottles. I am not sure if the
batch size increased now that the
Bowmore Small Batch Reserve has gone
global.
