Gold Rush For Chivas Brothers Whisky Brands

Success across the Chivas Brothers portfolio at this year’s International Wine and Spirit Competition with nine gold /gold outstanding medals awarded to expressions from Chivas Regal, Ballantine’s, The Glenlivet, Aberlour and Passport.

Leading the way for the Chivas Brothers whisky brands at this year’s International Wine and Spirit Competition was the premium Scotch whisky, Chivas Regal 18 which scooped the prestigious ‘Blended Scotch Whisky’ trophy.

The judges were unanimous in their praise for Chivas Regal 18, with the panel commenting: "Stone fruits lead in very attractive nose with peach being most dominant. Nutmeg, cinnamon and sherry follow. Wonderfully warming in the mouth. Rich in sherry characters with raisins and plum. Vanilla is prominent in long, well sustained finish. Delightful."

There was further success across the Chivas Brothers portfolio of Scotch whisky with nine gold /gold outstanding medals awarded to expressions from Chivas Regal, Ballantine’s, The Glenlivet, Aberlour and Passport, reinforcing the consistent and outstanding quality of Chivas Brothers’ comprehensive range of Scotch whiskies.

The Glenlivet, the world’s no.2 single malt whisky, is celebrating after The Glenlivet Nŕdurra scooped a trophy and two gold medals in the International Wine and Spirit Competition and the International Spirit Challenge.

The Glenlivet Nŕdurra 16 Year Old expression won the prestigious ISC trophy for ‘Scotch Malt Whisky 20 Years and Under’ and a gold medal at the IWSC. The Glenlivet Nŕdurra Oloroso, which was recently launched to great acclaim from whisky experts, also received a gold medal at the IWSC.

There was further success for the pioneering brand as The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve and The Glenlivet Archive 21 Year Old each won gold medals at the IWSC while The Glenlivet XXV, The Glenlivet 18 Year Old and The Glenlivet 12 Year Old all received gold medals at the ISC.

Aberlour, the artisanal Speyside single malt much revered by whisky experts around the world, has been awarded a gold medal for its Aberlour 18 Year Old expression in the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition.

The IWSC success follows the strong performance of Aberlour 18 Year Old in other internationally-respected drinks awards this year, including a double gold medal win at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and a gold medal win at the International Spirits Challenge. The expression also received an ‘ultimate recommendation’ from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in March this year.

The esteemed judging panel, which included some of the industry’s leading whisky experts, commented that Aberlour 18 Year Old had a "great structure, full body and mellow roundness” with a “beautiful, fruity nose” and a “warming glow in [the] long finish."

Passport Scotch blended whisky, the no. 2 standard whisky in Brazil, has won a prestigious gold medal, the esteemed judging panel, which included some of the industry’s leading whisky experts, were impressed by remarking that it had a “satin smooth flow across the palate”, a "tremendous balance of fruit and malt” and “great mouth filling character".

Ballantine’s is celebrating a double victory after scooping two gold medals. The innovative brand won gold for its Ballantine’s Finest and Ballantine’s Limited expressions, reinforcing its reputation for excellence across the range. The judges praised Ballantine’s Finest for its "wide spectrum of aromatics, covering citrus, dried fruits, honey, spice, toast and rich malt” and its “light character, yet packed with complexity".

Ballantine’s Limited was described as having "a complex array of flavours, led by rich malt, ripe grape, apricot and fruit cake.” The judges also commented on its “beautiful texture” and “long complex finish".
