Tomatin
distillery has unveiled the 6th
instalment in their limited edition Cù Bòcan Creation
series, this one is a combination of
lightly peated whisky matured in
Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for nine
years and Jamaican Rum casks for ten
years.

Distillery's seasonal experiment, the
Highland whisky Cù Bòcan, reveals its
newest creation: Creation #6, a
limited-edition single malt. Since its
inception in 2013, Cù Bòcan has drawn
inspiration from Tomatin's historical
lightly-peated spirits, crafting a
diverse array of flavours through unique
cask maturation techniques.
Creation #6 (46% ABV, non-chill
filtered, RRP £60) is crafted from
lightly peated Scottish barley and is a
blend of liquid aged in Pedro Ximénez
sherry casks for nine years and
characterful Jamaican Rum casks for ten
years. The outcome I am told is an
intriguingly smoky spirit with a
surprisingly lively character. It is
said to tantalise with Caribbean flair,
carrying notes of toasted Jamaica ginger
cake, bonfire toffee, and banana and
walnut loaf, followed by hints of
rum-soaked pineapple, raisins, and a
subtle undertone of Daim crunchy almond
caramel.
On the palate, it is said to offer a
deliciously dark depth of flavour,
opening with amaretto cherries and
salted caramel-coated liquorice,
followed by bursts of spiced plum jam
and a kick of Fisherman’s Friend
lozenges. A velvety satin-like texture
envelops the palate, leading to a
lingering treacle finish.
Presented in Cù Bòcan’s signature
bespoke bottle, the design features
ascending contours engraved into the
glass, reminiscent of the whisky's wisps
of smoke, while horizontal lines pay
homage to the staves of aging casks. The
external packaging, adorned in striking
orange and mint green with a textured
finish mirroring peat, perfectly
encapsulates the whisky's smoky essence.
