The Dalmore
are set to release a rare Domaine Henri
Giraud Champagne cask finished Dalmore
50 year old to mark Richard Paterson's
half century crafting whisky.
The Dalmore has announced the
forthcoming release of a new Dalmore 50
year old single malt whisky to mark its
Master Distiller Richard Paterson’s 50th
year in the whisky industry.
Richard's creative side has been at work
to give us something special and
different to mark his own 50th
anniversary. Richard who is well known
for his innovative cask selection and
cask finishes when putting together a
single malt has chosen some special
casks in the creation of this rare
Dalmore 50 year old.
Journey of The Dalmore 50 Year Old
- 1966: The Dalmore new make
spirit was laid down to begin its 50
year journey in American white oak
ex-Bourbon casks.
- 2003: The maturing whisky is
transferred to Matusalem Oloroso
sherry casks.
- 2012: The whisky is transferred
to Port Colheita pipes.
- 2016: In January of this year,
the spirit was transferred to
Bourbon barrels as it reached its
desired taste profile, prior to
finessing.
- November 2016: The whisky was
finessed in Domaine Henri Giraud
Champagne casks for 50 days before
bottling. Domaine Henri Giraud
Champagne is one of the only
champagne houses to still mature
their wines in casks.
Richard Paterson has been the creative force behind some
of the worlds most outstanding and innovative
whisky releases in the past 50 years, his passion,
expertise and artistry has seen him
pioneer the art of maturation and cask
finishing which has been instrumental to
the success of The Dalmore.
Bottled at 40% ABV, there will up to 50
decanters released, which will be
hand-filled on order. Sadly my funds
couldn't stretch to give you my opinion
on this but the official tasting note is
below where the "tangy thick cut
marmalade, roasted coffee and moist
chocolate cake" notes on the palate
certainly make it sound very enticing.
As you would expect for a such a rare
whisky from the Dalmore, the new 50 year
old is presented in the highest quality,
meticulously crafted, premium packaging.
The Dalmore has teamed up with a few
legendary luxury houses.
To hold this unique whisky, the artisans
at prestigious French crystal house
Baccarat have skilfully created crystal
decanters, each of which will be held
within a presentation case designed and
crafted by the accomplished furniture
makers at LINLEY.
Finally, each decanter will be adorned
with a solid silver stag, created by
silversmiths Hamilton & Inches, holder
of The Royal Warrant.
The Dalmore 50 Year Old is certainly for those of you with deep
pockets or lottery winners, with a price
tag 0f £50,000, if you are neither of
those then like me you will have to make
do with the official tasting note below.
