Whisky Focus - Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery Celebrates 25 Years Of Visitor Centre

Nestled in the heart of Scotland, Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery in Aberfeldy is proudly celebrating the 25th anniversary of its acclaimed visitor centre and immersive whisky experience. To honour this milestone, the distillery is unveiling a special commemorative expression: Aberfeldy 22 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

This single malt joins the Exceptional Cask Series—a distinguished collection of rare Aberfeldy Single-Cask bottling's, Double-Cask expressions, and small-batch releases that exemplify Aberfeldy's dedication to craftsmanship and the art of cask selection. Released in extremely limited quantities, each bottling highlights the distillery’s signature style and depth of flavour.

The Aberfeldy 22 Year Old expression was first matured in traditional oak casks before being finished in rich Oloroso sherry casks sourced from Jerez, Spain. This final maturation is said to have added layers of complexity while enhancing Aberfeldy's trademark smoothness and honeyed character.

They tell me that the resulting whisky is opulent and harmonious, offering notes of sweet orchard fruits, succulent pear, and caramelized apple. Hints of vanilla and heather honey unfold gently on the palate, supported by subtle undertones of toasted oak and warm clove. The finish is long and exceptionally smooth, leaving a lingering trace of honey and spice.

The Aberfeldy 22 Year Old release was hand-selected by Aberfeldy's esteemed Malt Master, Stephanie Macleod, who commented: "With finishing, the goal is always to complement, never mask, the whisky’s inherent qualities. For this 22-Year-Old, we monitored the cask development carefully to ensure the Oloroso influence provided depth, warmth, and additional layers of fruit and spice. It felt like the perfect way to mark 25 years of welcoming visitors to the distillery—by sharing a whisky that reflects the character and craft we've become known for."

With just 552 bottles available worldwide, the Aberfeldy 22 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish will no doubt be attractive to collector’s —an elegant tribute to the distillery’s rich heritage and a toast to 25 years of welcoming whisky enthusiasts from around the world. Priced at £195, this limited-edition release will be available exclusively from the distillery and its official online store.
