Distell's
portfolio of Scotch whiskies has
picked up an impressive haul of awards
from the International Spirits Challenge
2022 with the top award going to a blend
some whisky drinkers may have
overlooked, Black Bottle Double Cask -
Alchemy Series.
The
International Spirits Challenge is one
of the most authoritative and
influential spirits competitions in the
world, winning an ISC award is indeed an
impressive achievement for any whisky
that passes the scrupulous blind
assessment from the ISC's experienced
panel of specialist judges and their
awards are often a good indicator to
whisky drinkers to what whiskies that
may be worth trying.
This year, Distell's Scotch whisky
portfolio which includes Bunnahabhain,
Tobermory and Deanston distilleries as
well as Black Bottle and Scottish Leader
blends has between them scooped quite an
impressive haul of 32 awards at the
International Spirits Challenge 2022.
Black Bottle, their bold and smoky blend which
features which features Islay, Highland
and Speyside single malt whiskies picked
up the highest International Spirits
Challenge available for its Double Cask
expression, which is part of the brand’s
much celebrated limited-edition Alchemy
Series. Black Bottle also impressed the
judges with their other expressions -
Black Bottle 10 Year Old, Black Bottle
Original and Black Bottle Island Smoke -
all winning gold awards.
Bunnahabhain distillery picked up the
largest number of awards across
Distell’s portfolio, collecting an 11
medals in total. The specialist judges
were impressed by Bunnahabhain’s
predominantly unpeated and sherried
single malts, awarding them with gold
medals for An Cladach, Eirigh Na Greine,
30 Year Old, 18 Year Old and the most
recent distillery annual release, 12
Year Old Cask Strength.
Deanston Distillery claimed seven medals
from the prestigious awarding bodies,
one of which was a gold medal for their
12 Year Old Sherry Oak. This malt is a
Taiwanese market exclusive, finished in
sherry casks to ensure a rich amber
colour and deep flavour. The Highland
distillery, located by the banks of the
River Teith, is known for its uniquely
waxy, soft, honeyed signature style of
spirit.
Tobermory Distillery, located on the
town’s colourful seafront on the idyllic
Isle of Mull, celebrated four gold
medals at the ISC awards. The
distillery’s most recent limited-edition
launch - Tobermory 24 Year Old, released
at the beginning of the year as part of
the distillery’s Hebridean Series,
scooped up one of the golds, while their
original single malt - Tobermory 12 Year
