Ferg & Harris ‘Wings of Kintyre’ a single cask Springbank 31 Year Old

Single cask, single malt whisky house Ferg & Harris has today unveiled its most remarkable release to date: Wings of Kintyre. This gilded showpiece of artistry and craftsmanship has been created exclusively for the upcoming Distillers One of One charity auction.

Held every two years, the prestigious auction brings together one-of-a-kind whiskies and experiences to raise funds for the Youth Action Fund, a non-profit dedicated to supporting disadvantaged young people across Scotland.

For this release, the Ferg & Harris team has bottled a hand-selected single cask of Springbank 31 Year Old organic whisky – an exceptionally rare spirit, finished in an organic cognac cask. The cognac, distilled from Folle Blanche grapes grown in Champagne, imparts notes of orchard fruit and gentle spice, complementing Springbank’s signature coastal Campbeltown profile.

Bottled at 47.6%, Wings of Kintyre is presented in an equally extraordinary vessel. The bottle carries a barley stalk rendered in 14-carat gold, with its neck adorned by Victorian sea glass—naturally shaped by the tides—threaded onto low-carbon Scottish leather. It is topped with a bespoke asymmetrical glass stopper.

The presentation case is itself a masterpiece, the result of months of collaboration and craftsmanship. Its sustainable oak frame, created by Scottish woodworker Eoghan Menzies, encases a stained-glass frontage inspired by both the rugged freedom of the Kintyre Peninsula and Ferg & Harris’ signature blue magpie motif. This stunning glasswork, created by Inverclyde artist Alec Galloway, is softly illuminated from within to highlight every intricate detail.

Estimated at £2,400–£3,500, the one-of-a-kind bottling will be offered at the biennial auction on 10th October at Hopetoun House, Edinburgh, giving collectors the chance to secure a whisky that will never be repeated.

Young Spirits co-founder Alex Harrison said: "We are thrilled to share Wings of Kintyre with the world today. It has been a labour of love and represents many months of work by our team and the skilled craftspeople we are proud to call our partners in its creation.

"Freedom to explore the possibilities of Scotch whisky is at the heart of every Ferg & Harris bottling, so there was a real synergy in creating this one of a kind Springbank whisky, which also embodies the freedom found in the rugged Kintyre peninsula where it is made.

"The finished result is stunning, and an absolute gem for all the discerning whisky magpies out there! Along with all the lots in this year’s auction, we hope it raises as much money as possible for such a worthwhile cause."

The winning bidder will also enjoy an exclusive experience: a private tasting with Alex Harrison at Young Spirits’ Edinburgh headquarters. In addition, they will receive the original 1.2-litre cask used for finishing—personalised with their details—as well as hand-waxed glass ampoules to savour their spirit.

Wings of Kintyre Review

Bottled at 47.6% ABV.

Producer's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Opens with welcoming aromas of freshly baked malted biscuits. Notes of creamy vanilla and light baking spices add warmth and finesse. As the whisky breathes, layers of baked orchard fruits such as spiced apple tart and stewed pears come forward, underscored by a gentle wooded depth.

Taste: Bottled at its natural cask strength of 47.6% ABV, the whisky opens with notes of lightly sweetened oat biscuits, followed by ginger warmth, vanilla custard, and golden raisins. A burst of baked apple and citrus zest provides lift, while the enhanced oak contact from the small cask imparts an elegant backbone of toasted wood, nutmeg, and a hint of dry roasted almonds.

Finish: The finish is long, clean, and structured, echoing with flavours of toasted oats, dry ginger spice, and a crisp, refreshing citrus peel sharpness.
