Fettercairn
announce the release of the 2nd
instalment of their Warehouse
Collection, Fettercairn Warehouse 2
Batch No.002, a combination of 38% First
Fill ex-American Rye barrels and 62%
First Fill ex-Bourbon barrels, and it is
outstanding.
Fettercairn
Distillery this week unveiled the second
instalment of their small batch Warehouse
Collection which they launched last year,
namely the Fettercairn Warehouse 2 Batch
No.002.
The Warehouse Collection aims to
showcase the treasures maturing in
Fettercairn Distillery's 14 dunnage
warehouses (Spoiler: and Batch 2 does
just that)
Fettercairn
Warehouse 2 Batch No.002 is a vatting of
29 casks from Warehouse 2 which were
hand selected by Whyte & Mackay's whisky
maker Gregg Glass, and to entertain us
whisky fans and show us yet another side
to Fettercairn Gregg has gone for a very
different selection of contributing cask
types for Warehouse 2 Batch 2, no sherry
or port casks in this release as we had
in the inaugural Batch 1.
The contributing 29 casks for Batch
No.002 were all laid down in 2009
in Warehouse 2 where high humidity
combined with a relatively cool and
temperate environment makes its mark on
the maturing spirit. Batch No.002 is a combination of
38% First Fill ex-American Rye barrels
and 62% First Fill ex-Bourbon barrels which
has produced 6000 bottles that have been
bottled at a flavoursome 48.5% ABV, non
chill-filtered and naturally coloured.
The Warehouse Collection celebrates the
talent, passion and commitment of the
distillery team, coupled with the vision
of the Master Whisky Maker in seeking
unusual and interesting casks to craft
these small batch releases.
Gregg Glass, whisky maker, Whyte and
Mackay said: "We were overwhelmed by the
response to our first small batch
release. This second release takes us on
a deep dive into further exploration of
the unique Fettercairn flavour, as we
have bottled spirit matured in ex
American Rye barrels, allowing us to
show a more experimental side to our
approach.
"I never cease to be inspired and
enthralled by the diversity and quality
of the amazing stock we have in our
warehouses, and this itself creates a
brilliant canvas to work from. The more
I discover, the more excited I get about
just what we can do as we continue to
create exceptionally refined whiskies
and offer something truly unexpected and
different."
Fettercairn Warehouse 2 Batch No.002
has a RSP of £55 and will be available from
specialist online whisky retailers such
as
The Whisky Exchange and

Fettercairn Warehouse 2 Batch No.002 Review

William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Sweet vanilla icing sugar, coconut, a
little honey and toasted almond, a
little
pear, some distant lemon and pineapple
and some lovely gentle spices loitering
in the background.
Taste:
A vanilla and honeyed sweet tropical
fruit mix of lemon, pear, pineapple and
mango fill the mouth, some delicious
gentle spices start to build.
Finish:
The spices peak, some lovely very gentle
cinnamon, ginger and just a wee touch of
liquorice, the tropical fruit mix fades
slowly, the vanilla and sugars are
gentle now but still hang in there to
the end.
Comment:
A delicious dram, this just shows how
good a whisky can be when you have the
pick of the warehouse to put it together
and no sherry or wine casks were needed
to add flavour or pleasure to this one.
A fantastically constructed balance of
First Fill ex-American Rye barrels and
First Fill ex-Bourbon barrels.
When they relaunched the Fettercairn
range back in 2018 they really did
transform it and it is very clear that
they now have their quite unique
distillation method spot on these days
and this combined with the good quality
of casks they are using simply bodes
well for the future and what we are
going to see from Fettercairn.
Here is hoping they have a lot more
First Fill ex-American Rye barrels and
First Fill ex-Bourbon barrels maturing
in the dunnage warehouses up at
Fettercairn meanwhile this release has
inspired me to revisit some of the
Fettercairn range so watch this space as
I will post reviews of the Fettercairn
12, 16 and 28 year old next week as I
have a bottle of each tucked away in the
cupboard, so watch this space but
meanwhile it is a big thumbs up from me
for the
Fettercairn Warehouse 2 Batch No.002.
