| The older expressions in general are more polished with the rough edges a young whisky can have buffed off, but youthful whisky can be every bit as enjoyable. One example of a young but still very muc ... |

Interesting question. I prefer:
Laphroaig QC to Laphroaig 10
Glenlivet 12 to Glenlivet 15
Glenfiddich 15 to Glenfiddich 18
Bowmore 12 to Bowmore 18
Old Pulteney 12 to Old Pulteney 17
Balvenie ... |

1. What was the first single malt you tried? (and, if you didn't like it, what was the first single malt you liked?)
Laphroaig 10. Didn't mind it, but it was Talisker that got me hooked.
2. What's ... |

| The Glenlivet from your link is an independent bottling, so that would be its special attraction. For a special Glenlivet I'd still recommend the Glenlivet Nadurra though. If he likes Caol Ila, he wil ... |

| Talisker is fantastic - still lots of smoke but richer and less medicinal than the big Islay malts. It's certainly easier to get into for most people, although I have a friend who loves Ardbeg and Lap ... |

| I wasn't aware of the travel retail Glenlivet 15. How does it compare to the French oak? I don't think the latter is bad per se, I'm just surprised at the selection since something like the Glenfiddic ... |

| Highland Park is an excellent whisky, but as Samson said if you want something completely different to Springbank maybe you should go for Talisker. After that, if you like the smoke in Talisker you ca ... |

| If you like the Dalmore's rather 'heavy' style, you'd probably also like Glenfarclas. The 15 year-old is the pick of their core range within your budget. Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin are the three ... |

My 3 choices would be:
Aberlour a'bunadh
Glenlivet 18 year old
Balvenie Portwood 21 year old
Mine too. Though I'd have gone for the Balvenie Doublewood had it been shortlisted over the Signa ... |

| I went with the Portwood. The Doublewood is undoubtedly fantastic value for money and one of the best whiskies in that price range, but the Portwood is just delicious! |
