My experience is that scotches in the 10-12 year range are often better than the same brand in the 17-18 year range.

Balvenie Double Cask is an example. I prefer the 12-year to the 17-year straigh ...

Bowmore 15 "Darkest" is a great blend of sherry and peat. Lots of both for about $75.

Any suggestions on one or two bottles for a good autumn splurge?

I keep striking out in this price range. Last year I tried Balvenie 17DW and Talisker 18, both seem to be popular here but I actu ...

Since "Ardbeg" is the gaelic word for "Ashtray" I will not be falling for any of their marketing attempts. They roll out one or two new gimmicks every year and it's always the sam ...

After buying the Winter's Gold fiasco, I will stick to the 15.

If you like Laphroaig's Quarter Cask then the Triple Wood is virtually indistinguishable.

I have not found the Laphroaig 18 but it is probably nothing like the overpriced boring smoke of the Talisk ...

The plan is to buy two of these, all similarly priced above my usual price-point. I like each company's products in general. Any tips as to which of these will be a significant upgrade over the lowe ...

For me it is seasonal.

Spring - Dalwinnie 15

Summer - Aultmore 12

Fall - Balvenie DW 12

Winter - Laphroaig QC

All of these are reasonably priced and consistently reliable.

Seems to be a marketing ploy. The gimmick is to drink it cold, but nobody will like it if they don't like all their scotch cold.

The 15 is much better.

I was excited to get the 15 on a business trip to UK, but the bottle I got is tasteless. The normal 17 we can get in the US beat the 15 in a side-by-side test easily. If it is just a "bad bottl ...

What is the forum's experience with these special release bottles? The local Total Wines has dozens of them - blends and single distilleries (popular and rare). Prices start at $100 and go much high ...

Dalmore 12 is $50 and is quite tasty - roasted coffee, toasted toffee.

Bowmore 15 Darkest has moderate peat and heavy sherry.
