| Although probably unlikely i liked to think it is a young Ardbeg. I think it will always remain an unknown islay malt. I have been told the Smokehead 18 is very good but havent tried it myself. |

Smokehead is a great example of the very unique single malt whiskies which the independent bottlers can offer us when they bottle a whisky at a differnt age and strength than the original distillery bottling that is available. It demonstrates just how different a whisky from the same distillery can be when bottled at a different age and strength, this is proven by the fact that none of us can say for sure where Smokehead originates from but we all seem to agree it is a very good Islay single malt.
By the way definitely a young Lagavulin |

| I am surprised there arent more votes for Laphroaig. I would swear it had to come from Laphroaig, just shows you how tastes can vary from person to person. |

I have always thought that Smokehead was a 7/8 year Laphroaig bottled at 43% and natural colour opposed to the Laphroaig 10 distillery bottling which is bottled at 40% and the distillery bottling seems to have a wee bit of a tan . If you ever get the chance try them side by side i think you will see the similarity. Not sure if this means anything, perhaps a clue to Smokeheads origin but the Smokehead and Laphroaig bottles are also indentical apart from the colour of the glass. Whatever it is Smokehead is a great Isay dram. |

| I always thought it was young Laphroaig also. William i see what you mean about the bottles i just compared the 2 of them when i read your post they are indentical. I wouldnt have a preference between them, they are both very good just different expressions from IMO the same distillery. |
