Thanks, an interesting article does everyone on this site agree with what has happened to Jim Murray?
Perhap's the big distiller's could have thrown him a bone so to speak, maybe he could have done a public apology for the offending reviews and in the next bible edition remove the offending parts.
As a whisky drinker I am no fan of The Whisky Bible, much preferring the books by Michael Jackson but I cannot comment on whether he is is an out and out sexist purely on the basis of the book.
Has Becky Paskin ever met Jim Murray?
It is certainly a lesson to all of us about how you conduct yourself, not just in person but also the written word etc. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

I dont agree with what has happened to Jim Murray, i do wonder if many of the whisky companies have taken this chance to remove the power he has over what sells and what doesnt by removing his supply of whisky samples, putting the power for what sells in the hands of the PR marketing, advertising, magazine pieces and the industry supported online drinks website/magazines.
Regards the Ballantines Finest it, he has given it the "Blended Scotch no age statement" award in the 2022 book which i wouldnt argue with, it costs a couple of pounds more than the likes of Famous Grouse, Grants and Bells and is a wee step up in quality in my view. He gave Johnnie Walker 12 Black Label the Blended Scotch 5-12 years award, again no arguement from me.
He has given Ballantines Finest his "Scotch Blend of the Year" which i dont get as there are some outstanding Scotch blends out there which would be more worthy of this award. |

Was he actually given the chance to apologise, it appears that he was dropped like a hot brick in a matter of hours?
The brands who dropped him did not complain when he was giving high scores to their whisky?
I think the Scotch whisky industry is certainly trying to attract a cross section of people these days and I thought it was really good to see so many staff and brand ambassadors being female at the show, what I did not see was more ladies actually being at the show tasting whisky, so a bit of a way to go on that score. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

Starting "WOW" (War on Woke), and calling himself a victim sounds like about the opposite of apologising. - to the 41 year old canadian women he had sex with but wasnt as much fun as his glass of 41 canadian whisky, (what the hell does that even mean?!)
I did hear through the vrapevines that he only reviews your whisky after you pay him a donation, an "undefined" sum. I cant confirm, but it came from a reliable source. Lately I haven't been a fan of his scores nor his public figure. |

i was reading through the daily mail forum
and one of his defenders was complaning about becky here wearing a negilegee
this i found dissapointing did she have to wear a suit whatever she was wearing was okay
the more i read about jim murray i find he wouldnt say maybe i need to tone down certain whisky notes im never wrong we all make mistakes and learn from them
if i am right he did an article in the whisky magazine saying the japanese whisky industry would collapse or be in trouble
it now seems completely wrong so i started takeing what he said at face value
when i first started drinking whisky i was a fan of jim murray but no longer but dont what to stab him in the back
i think hes given certain people the chance to drop him and they have taken it as some people think of him a god
some people think wrongly that his whisky of the year is the best thing around but one persons ideas are one persons
i find it better when you get maybe 20 highly regarded whisky tasters and get an overall opinion
not one person

| I don't agree with most of his whisky reviews these days, but I will defend to the death his right to say what he wants (to paraphrase Voltaire). Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of any civilised society. If this trend is taken to its logical conclusion you won't be able to give any whisky a bad review for fear of offending its producer. |

Jim's still free to publish his outdated opinions in his book and has done so since being 'cancelled', so his freedom of expression hasn't been removed. |

Living in Europe, things like hate speech are not allowed. Freedom of expression is a very confusing thin line, and only ok until you start getting LGTB hate marches for example. I've never felt like I was being restricted in what I can or can't say, and I'm very happy I don't live in the US, where you have a more firm "freedom of speech", basically hate speech is allowed, which is infuriating to many. |
