Hi peeps. Pretty new to whisky, got a taste for bourbon a few years ago and now enjoy my scotch too. fav is prob Glenlivet
Saw this Glenfiddich rich Oak in sainsburys today in Leamington. I've already got bottles of the 12 yr old, the Caoran reserve and 18yr old on the go and picked this up.
My fav of these was the 'normal' 12 yr old, followed by 18, not over keen on the Caoran.

Anyway, the Rich Oak was a bargain at £19.99 (no discount shown, was just a normal price tag??) and jumped straight into my favourite spot.

Very smooth, slightly sweet and very drinkable

enjoyed it so much it made me google it and join this forum to share the news !!!

Hi SNuRCHeR and welcome to the forum.

I havent been able to get a hold of any Rich Oak yet myself, Glenfiddich only released it just over a week ago. I had noticed Sainburys listing it on there website at £19.99 but i tried my local store and they havent got any yet. The RRP for it is £30.99 so it must be an introductory offer even though Sainsburys doesnt show it as been on offer for some reason. Hopefully my local store will have it in soon, i am even more keen to try it now after reading your post. Another quality whisky at a decent price is always welcome.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the welcome,

a 30th birthday bottle of monkey shoulder 2 yrs ago got me onto the whisky rather than bourbon (although i still love a wild turkey and splash of lemonade) i was thinking of getting a couple of bottles for stock purposes as i'm unsure this price will stay so low.

Can't say i'm an expert and appreciate the finer aspects of scotch but i've enjoyed a few bottles over the past 2 years and really enjoyed this.

Would love to hear other opinions of this

Simon.

Hi Simon and welcome to the SMW forum

I just got a bottle of the Rich Oak from Sainsburys myself earlier this evening. Just had my first taste of it and i thought it was a very nice dram. The spicy oak is at the forefront on the nose with some fruit and toffee, a little grass. The taste is spicy, a lovely light vanilla sweetness, fruity, oaky spice. Quite a long oaky finish.

I shall certainly buy it again especially at the price Sainburys have it at the moment, great value at £19.99

Simon, i dont know if you have tried the Glenfiddich 15 Solera Reserve, Sainburys have that on offer also at just under £28 which is a good price for a good whisky. I agree the Caoran is not so great.

I was a bit disappointed with the Caoran, the 15 & 18 year olds are my pick from the Glenfiddich range and they can often been found on offer in the supermarkets. Not had the Rich Oak yet but reading the description of it i am pretty sure i will like it. I will need to try get to a Sainburys and get some while it is only £19.99

Hi Sorren, they cannot call it a sale if it hasnt been available before in the store at full price but I am not sure why Sainsburys are not promoting this as a special introductory price. Glenfiddich told me the full recommended retail price for the Rich Oak would be £30.99 so you are getting quite a bargain in Sainsburys. Anyway Sorren, i hope you enjoy it.

I noticed the Sainsburys website is now also showing it at £39.99, i guess that is the introductory offer over. My local store didnt get any in at £19.99, not sure if i would pay £39.99 for it though unless someone says it was really worth that amount.

Not sure if Sainsburys have made a mistake here with the pricing or if they are simply profiteering. The Glenfiddich official blog says the RRP is £30.99 so for Sainburys to charge £39.99 is rediculous.

I would hope that this is a pricing error if not is it an outrageous price markup by Sainsburys.
