The £40 million Diageo built Roseisle Distillery in Moray has been named Scottish Building Project of the Year.
The distillery beat competition from Easter Ross, Motherwell and Glasgow-based finalists to win the award, organised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in Scotland.
Roseisle is the largest distillery built in Scotland and the first new-build for 30 years.
The energy generated by the distillery's separate £14million biomass plant is used to generate the steam that charges the stills. A water reclamation plant recycles liquid for potable water.
The £40million building's design, providing sections for mashing, fermentation and distilling, was determined by the whisky-making process.
Roseisle won the sustainability category award in the RICS Scotland awards last month and was competing against three other category winners for yesterday's grand title. The rival finalists were The Old Schoolhouse bed-and-breakfast at Logie, Easter Ross, the Maxim Office Park at Motherwell, and North Glasgow College.
RICS Scotland director Graeme Hartley said the "impressive"? Roseisle Distillery deserved to be named Scottish Building Project of the Year.
He added: "It has brought forward innovative sustainability in a commercial environment and demonstrates an efficient use of environmentally friendly resources and techniques.
"Visually, the property is very striking and is a remarkable wrapper for the process contained within it.
"It also makes a great attraction for both local and international visitors. Congratulations to all involved."?
Roseisle Distillery's malt distilling director Brian Higgs said: "We believe Roseisle Distillery is a tremendous example of the future of distilling in Scotland.
"The RICS Scotland Project of the Year Award comes as a great endorsement of Diageo's ongoing commitment and investment in the business, as well as the great achievements of the team at Roseisle."?
