I think this is a good move for both Grants and Tullamore Dew, with the increasing popularity of Irish whiskey in recent years and Grants experience it is sure to increase sales and perhaps we will see some new Tullamore Dew single malts in the future. Also good to see it going to a family run independent distiller other than a faceless multi-national.

Yes i also think this is a good move for both Tullamore Dew and Irish whiskey. The Scotsman is also reporting that Grants plan on building its own distillery and distilling its own products but the piece in ths Scotsman also says "Grant has declined to elaborate on its acquisition or its plans and a spokesman said he was "not aware of any such development" so who knows what will happen.

Tullamore Dew do already have a 10 year old malt but i have never seen it available in any shops so i have never had the chance to taste it so cant comment on what it is like.

I wonder what style of single malt whiskey Grants would produce under the Tullamore name and would they triple distil.

The Tullamore Dew 10 year old malt was released this time last year but i still havent seen it in any shops yet, i am guessing availablity is very limited or perhaps it wasnt available outside Ireland. TDs website describe it like this:
Quote:
Tullamore Dew is proud to introduce a bold new entry to the Single Malt category. The wonderfully complex flavour of the Tullamore Dew 10 Year Old Single Malt comes from years of maturation in Old Bourbon, Dry Oloroso Sherry, Port and Madeira casks. In fact, it is the only Irish Single Malt to be matured to perfection in four casks. Ageing in these specially selected casks enhances and intensifies the flavour of the spirit.

The result is a singularly rich and mellow expression of a legendary Irish whiskey. It is the perfect addition to the Tullamore Dew family of whiskies.

It doesnt mention if it is triple distilled but i assume it is. Alastair, I see your point about triple distilling as it can take out some of the character and flavour the single malt drinker is looking for.

If the story the Scotsman is reporting is true, i wonder if they will just use the irish whiskey name tag and produce a double distilled Scottish style malt or a triple distilled irish style.
