An exceptionally rare bottle of Glenfiddich distilled in 1937 will go up for sale at Bonhams Whisky sale in Edinburgh on 16 June 2010.

It is one of only 11 bottles of the 1937 produced by the distillery and is the first to appear at auction. It is expected to fetch as much as £20000

This sold at Bonhams yesterday for £25,200, including the buyers premium.

If you werent the one lucky enough to buy it at auction then this is what you are missing:

Experts said the single malt smelled of newly dug peat, burnt leather and oak. They said it tasted of treacle toffee, creme brulee and toasted almonds.

The price paid fell short of the world record £29,400 which was paid in 2007 for a 19th century bottle of Bowmore, according to Bonhams auction house.
