On Friday 18th June the first new whiskey to be distilled at Kilbeggan in over 53 years was officially unveiled, the "Kilbeggan Distillery Reserve Malt".
Jack Teeling, Managing Director of the Cooley Distillery Company who sparked life back into the Kilbeggan Distillery told me:
"In terms of its taste profile it is quite different to the Malt whiskey produced by Cooley. It has a distinctive floral nose with a surprising smooth and mature taste profile for a three year whiskey which is a result of maturation in the quarter cask and size of the neck and pot still itself. The finish is relatively long with quite a peppery finish."
The Distillery Reserve first batch (which consisted of 9 quarter casks) will only be available through the Kilbeggan Distillery shop but depending on interest may become more widely available.
