Not sure if it warrants its own thread, but I've just been having some Laphroaig 10 and wanted to share my enthusiasm for this unique whisky. It was the reason I got into whisky a few years ago (along with Talisker), and I'm absolutely in awe of its power and character. Maybe not as rich as my beloved Talisker 18, but runs it a close second in my book. Any other Laphroaig opinions and experiences?
On a slightly different note, it strikes me that, even though guides advise newcomers to start with milder, lighter whiskies like the Glenlivet or Aberlour, it doesn't always have to be the case. For example, I tried Glenfiddich 12 for the first time a couple of weeks ago (unusually late, I know!) and, even though it was a pleasant drink, I doubt it would've hooked me (like Laphroaig and Talisker did) if it was my first whisky. Sometimes a powerful first impression is better. |

| I would say Laphroaig is either a "love It" or "hate it" whisky. If someone is new to whisky and trys Laphroaig and hates it they could be put off all whisky. I have given it to a few friends who hadnt tried it before, a couple just hated it, but most were blown away by it. Personally i love it, i always have a Laphroaig 10, Quarter Cask and Cask Strength on the go although i dont drink so much of it during the warmer months. |

I agree Andy it is a love it or hate whisky. I drink more of the Laphroaig 10 these days, probably due to ardbegs crazy pricing these days. |

| True, it is indeed a 'love it or hate it' whisky, I just haven't come across anyone who hates it! Friends in similar situations to mine were also hooked right from the first sip. Talisker, however, even though it's not as peaty or medicinal, has turned off a couple of people even though I think it has more approachable flavours than Laphroaig. Strange... |
