The tickets for the Whisky Fringe 2010 were supposed to go on sale at the beginning of December but there appears to be a problem and they are not available yet. I thought i would mention it here for those who may have been looking for tickets. This is what it says on the RMW website:
| Quote: | Whisky Fringe 2010
IMPORTANT NEWS: tickets for 2010 are NOT going on sale Dec. 1st, as previously stated. New licensing legislation needs to be clarified. Tickets can not be sold until then. Please click 'more' below for full details and before calling us in a panic!
| Apparentently the delay in the availability of the tickets is due to the new licensing laws introduced in Scotland in September 2009.
It does say that | Quote: | | Whisky Fringe will take place at Mansfield Traquair, Edinburgh on Saturday and Sunday 14th & 15th August 2010. Whilst we are unable to state with certainty the date that tickets will go on sale, it will not be until May 2010 at the earliest. | This has got to seriously effect this event for those who have to book accommodation but were waiting to get tickets first. Well done to the Scottish Parliament, bunch of muppets.

This is just absolute stupidity, this event promotes a Scottish product that generates a huge income for Scotland and employs thousands of Scots. Whoever thought these new rules/laws through is needing removed from their position as they were obviously not intelligent enough to make these new rules without affecting the whisky industry and in this case the tourist industry also.
Who would book flights and accommodation without first getting a ticket for the event and by May how likely are you to be able to get decent priced accommodation in Edinburgh for the month of August.
I wonder if the Speyside Festival, Whisky Live Glasgow, Whisky an a that will have these problems as i believe the new laws are down to each local authorities interpretation of them. I thought a law should be law and not open to interpretation especially by a local authorities.

I hope the Edinburgh local authority sees sense. I read about this on RMWs website, it looks like giving a discount for a 2 day ticket will be against the rules. This is just nonsense i have yet to see anyone at this event who has had too much to drink, but i can see that in any town or city centre in Scotland any night of the week. Basically these new laws seem to be targeting things that are not a problem and wont even touch the true problem. These new rules are going to cost Scotland. The sooner Scotland gets the chance to remove the mickey mouse SNP the better.

I see your point about accommodation Andy, i was planning on booking a hotel and usually do so in advance but come May there wont be much left to book for the month of August.

Tickets for the Whisky Fringe are now on sale for Sat 14th & Sun 15th Aug £20 each and limited to 4 per person.
This is what the royal mile whisky site had to say:
| Quote: | Sorry we're so late in making tickets available this year but new licensing laws in Scotland raised various grey areas as to what is allowed with such events. We've been in discussions with the Licencing Authorities and whilst they've not given us anything in black & white, they have confirmed that all is ok.
The only area of potential problem was a two-day ticket at reduced price. As such, if you want to come both days, please purchase two separate day tickets (with no price increases we hope it's still seen as good value). Otherwise, it's still at one of Edinburgh's most beautiful buildings (Mansfield Traquair), The Half Time Orange will be back, and some of the world's greatest malts are on show! |
See you their.

| I think a few would have been disappointed, as butephoto says, they went real quick - the sign of a quality event i suppose. |

I havent been to the whisky fringe although i have heard good things about it but it seems to me they need a bigger venue to cater for the popularity of the event.

| I can understand peoples frustration if they didnt get a ticket as not everyone cant sit around the computer all day waiting for them to be released. I was lucky, i had a mate who got me a ticket otherwise i wouldnt have got one as i wouldnt have been able to hang around online due to work commitments. |
