|
|
Having bought two or three new bottles this past month, I feel the time has come to get a Glenfiddich, but which one? I've tried the ubiquitous 12 year-old and although it was pleasant enough I don't think I'd want to buy a whole bottle. This leaves the following options within my budget:
12 Caoran Reserve
14 Rich Oak
15 Solera
15 Distillery bottling
18
Opinions? I've been thinking that since I'm willing to spend enough money for the 18 year-old, I should probably go for that anyway, unless any of the others are particular gems. |

| My personal preference for Glenfiddich out of your list would be the Glenfiddich Solera 15 year old or the 18 year old. |

| I agree the glenfiddich 12 is pleasant enough but quite dull. The Caoran Reserve is ok just a touch of smoke. The Solera and the 18 year old are both very good and worth a try. |

| It is worth remembering that the supermarkets often do good offers on the Glenfiddich range including the solera and the 18 which i agree are by far the best of the bunch. Sometimes you can get these bottles with up to £10 off. |

| Looks like it's between the Solera and the 18 then. I'll probably wait until there's a particularly good offer in a supermarket on either bottle. I noticed Tesco online has a pretty good deal on the Glenlivets they stock, including the Glenlivet 18 for about £30. How does it compare to Glenfiddich 18? |

I wouldnt say that i have a preference between the Glenfiddich 18 and the Glenlivet 18, they are both very good whiskies and a good price for quality whiskies of this age, i wouldnt say one is really better than the other just different and these are 2 that i would recommend to any whisky drinker with confidence that they will enjoy them. Because they are both often on offer in the supermarkets i always have some at home and they are probably the 18 year olds i consume most next to highland park 18.
One to try some time if you havent already is the Glenlivet Nadurra which is 16 years old especially if you like sweet whisky, i cant get enough of this one. |

| My personal choice would be the Glenlivet 18 before the Glenfiddich but i would not say no to either of them. Both are worth trying at least once. |
