What a great collection of interesting bottles. If they only fetch their expected price, there is plenty of affordable bottles there too for the less wealthy enthusiast!

Yeh more than a few interesting whiskies their. I would have estimated the Lagavulin 1914 higher given the popularity of the brand, be interesting to see what it goes for.

You have posted the same link twice JAB. For anyone interested the Lagavulin 1914 is Lot 400

Yes a few tempting bottles their. I have never bid in one of these auctions before, would i be right in saying the buyer pays a further 15% of the hammer and does anyone know what the additional charges for shipping would be.

Thanks

Kava

Every auction house is different!

But you add the vat 17.5% and the buyers premium say 15% so you would add 32.5% to the final hammer price

£100 hammer would meen you pay £132.50

and some do shipping some dont but you could arange your own courier with the auction house in advance!

Cheers JAB

I was totally forgetting about VAT, 32.5% is quite a lot to add on to the hammer price making some of the estimates not quite the bargains they appear to be especially if like me you would then have to pay shipping costs. Still good to browse through the auctions.

The estimates are a good guide!

I normally go to the mctears auctions myself, some of the bottles go well bellow, some inbetween and a few well over!

You really have to get urself a catalouge and do your research on the bottles you are interested in, eg retailing prices of the bottles you are interested in buying. once you have these take away about 35% and any of the bottles selling under this is a good bargin! (set yourself a max price and stick to it)

But if you have to pay shipping this eats into the savings! so would recomend going along in person if you can make them!

You can get some good bargains at auctions but do not get too carried away, do your research and bid what you can afford. Estimates are just that, it really depends on who bids on the day.

Re Mctears auction, you have got the charges a wee bit wrong.
If the hammer price was £100, +15% commission, then vat on the commission only, total would be £117.63.
Bonhams I think charge 20% commission.
