China - an important market for Scotch Whisky - has announced that it will recognise and protect "Scotch Whisky' as a Geographical Indication (GI).

UK Business Secretary Vince Cable signed an agreement with Chinese officials which will recognise the brand as whisky produced in Scotland.

It means Scotch whisky on sale in China can only be sold according to UK rules.

China is a huge market so this is good news, hopefully this gives the industry a boost in Scotland.
