Hi Everyone
I am considering buying a 2009 single cask bottling of Laphroaig Highgrove as a long term investment. Everything I have read about them indicates that they are "exclusive" bottlings and would indeed make a sound investment, however I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this. The cost would be less that 100 pounds which also seems pretty reasonable. Any thoughts would be welcome!
Thanks |

| I have looked at this with a view to drinking it, not sure how much of a investment it would be but i am sure it would sell well in overseas markets with the royal connection. |

I quite fancied this bottle myself for drinking, £70 for a 12 year old single cask laphroaig aint too bad at least i think it is a single cask bottling of laphroaig. if it had been bottled at a higher strength i would have jumped at it. i think delivery was free to the UK which is good.
Investment wise it is hard to say how much you will make on it, as kava says it will probably do well in overseas markets where they cant get a hold of it. |

| I noticed that the Highgrove website is selling it for £70 but earlier bottles (2 or 3 years earlier) are for sale on some whisky shop sites for around £100. If this is an indication of how much the Laphroaig Highgrove will fetch in the future you may have to hold on to it for quite some time to make a decent return. Selling it outside europe would be where you could make money with this bottle as i dont think the Highgrove website dispatches outside europe. |

| As a long term investment i think the Laphroaig Highgrove will certainly make money. Looking in The Whisky Exchange they have a couple of bottles that give you an indication of how much they will be worth in a few years. They have a Laphroaig Highgrove 1991 for £299 and a 1994 for £250 |

| Has anyone actually tried the Laphroaig Highgrove, if so what did you think of it. I have never came across a review of it. No mention of it in the likes of Jim Murrays whisky bible. |

I haven't tried the Highgrove, but I have bought many many single cask Laphroaig through the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and they never disappoint. If I am buying a single cask whisky online from them, without the ability to taste it first, it is my 'go to' distillery.
Personally though, I would drink it rather than hide it away! _________________ Rob Hughes

Are these the Highgrove bottlings available direct from Highgrove?. If so there have been a few produced since 2008. Initially they were £50 a bottle and were selling on eBay when they first started coming out for £165. Secondary prices have now fallen and a lot now fail to sell on eBay. Highrove obviously saw the initial casks such as 7229 selling out very quick and have since upped the price to £70.
Don't be fooled by the prices of the original green highgroves bottles in TWE achieve I dont think the new ones will hit such prices, and if you wish to sell any bottle privately the rule ofI thumb for me is 30% off retail prices. But I may be wrong. The new bottles do come boxed but in a box designed for bottles much taller than the 70cl, so for me they don't look too 'sexy' and the box an after thought- the box is optional mind. However the two I had 7229 and 4** (can't remember) were happily drunk and one of each tucked away in the collection.
