Three bottles of the Mackinlays whisky which accompanied Ernest Shackleton on his 1907 expedition have been returned to brand owner Whyte & Mackay for scientific analysis.

| I assume they are going to recreate this Shackleton Mackinlays whisky. After going to the expense of getting the whisky wouldnt it be funny if they found it tasted llike sh*t when they analyse it. It is always a possibility as no one knows what effect it could have on the whisky being stored at freezing temperatures for 100 years. |

| Even if they did find it was simply a poor quality blend i am sure they wouldnt tell us. Do Whyte & Mackay still produce Mackinlays whisky today, as you never see it? |

I was just reading about this on the BBC news website
www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12217018
| Quote: | Mr Mallya has been in the UK to hand over a case of whisky from Ernest Shackleton's 1907 Antarctic expedition.
It will be analysed at the Mackinlay distillery in the Scottish Highlands, which is now owned by Mr Mallya's Whyte & Mackay company | Not like the BBC to make mistakes so it must be me that has it wrong. Where is the "Mackinlay distillery in the Scottish Highlands" that a new one to me, it must exist as the BBC wouldnt get it wrong would they |

One of the bottles will undergo tests at the Whyte & Mackays Invergordon distillery. There is a video on the BBC site with Richard Paterson with a doctor/scientist white coat on talking about the whisky.

I just added a video of the whisky being unpacked by Richard

I wonder if W & M will use this opportunity to reintroduce the Mackinlays brand to the UK and worldwide market. At the moment I dont think they even know if it is a single malt or a blended whisky. If it generates the creation of an affordable smoky whisky then i will be happy. |
