My friend and grad school colleague Zach put up his first scotch review on my site. It's a well researched & great review, and I wanted to show him a bit of support by sharing it with the experts. I hope you find it enjoyable and interesting. The Macallan is easy drinking label I always find myself returning to. Thanks for looking Very Happy

The Macallan 12

Meandering between the north edge of the Grampian Mountains and the North Sea in northeastern Scotland, the River Spey and surrounding area - known colloquially as 'Speyside' - host more than half of Scotland's distilleries. If this region's distilleries had weight-classes, Macallan would be a heavyweight. Legally licensed as soon as it was an option, Macallan has been producing a range of whiskies since 1824. In recent years, Macallan has tried to retain its link to the past by using, when possible, the lesser grain-producing Scottish barley variety Golden Promise, along with Chariot and Optic varieties and two yeasts. This combination has been credited with enhancing the fruity, spicy aromas and flavors of their whiskies, while their use of especially small stills heated by gas burners imparts a creamy, caramelized richness like nothing else.

The Macallan 12 year old single malt is aged in sherry oak casks from Jerez, Spain.

color Deep gold/amber

nose Honey, vanilla, wood smoke and dried date

body Full, smooth

palate A flowery brightness, honey and dried fruit balanced with wood smoke and clove.
Hints of peat.

finishToffee, wood smoke and clove

rating 8.8, I wanted the finish to linger and linger, overall this is a really good non-peaty, everyday whisky. It also goes really well with pie crust and short bread.

price $45-55
Cheers,
Zach
