Highland Park 15 year old

I have a bit of a taste for Highland Park but i have never tried the Highland Park 15 year old and i wondered if anyone here has tried it and is it worth a try. For some reason you never hear it mentioned much. Is it worth a try?

Not tried it either but have drank a 14yo HP recently and is very nice!

I had a bottle of this recently. I would say the Highland Park 15 is worth a try. It is unmistakably highland park with the lovely honey and smoke you would expect from HP. Not sure why it is not so widely available. Makes an interesting tasting when you try it along side the HP 12 & 18

I think many people over look the Highland Park 15 because for not much more you can get the HP 18 which is i think most will agree a very good whisky. Also when the HP 12 is on offer for around £20 in the supermarket then most would choose this over the HP 15 which is usually priced close to £40

Having said all that i agree with Keith it is certainly worth a try at least once. You certainly wont be disappointed.

You can get it direct from the distillery or i would think most of the online whisky specialist shops should have it or can get it for you.

The Highland Park website still lists the 15 year old as part of their core range but it has never been widely available. I agree worth trying if you can get it.

The HP 15 is one that i havent tried, probably because you dont really see it in many shops.

I tried it a few years ago and IMO you are better of with the 12 or 18 year old. Having said that i have read it has improved but i havent had it recently.

I just went to the Highland Park website and was really impressed - they have a great video section too with very succinct and informative tasting notes. They have the 15 year-old for £38 so I might give it a try, as it's not that bad a price for a 15 year-old. Apparently the main difference between the 15 and the 12 & 18 is the use of American, rather than European oak.

Yes highland park have a decent site. I think their postage rates are not too bad if i remember correctly. I have a couple of there nosing glasses that i use all the time.

I havent had the 15 but i have had a couple of bottles of the Highland Park 16 year old which was a travel retail bottling and i thought it was very good for what i paid for it at the time. Not sure if you still get this bottling as it may have been replaced by the new travel retail vintage bottlings with there higher price tag I havent tried these and most probably wont. Last time i came through an airport you couldnt even get the HP 18 anymore just these vintage bottlings that do cost quite a bit more. Not impressed with Highland Park for doing this.

Crane you can still get the 16 year old direct from the Highland Park (they want £49 for it) site but i havent seen it in an airport since the new travel retail vintage appeared so i would guess the HP site is simply selling off remaining stock. I am pretty sure it has been replaced by the new vintage range at the airports.

Personally i havent tried the new vintage range and havent read any reviews on it except what is in the Whisky Bible where Jim Murray refers to the 1998 as disappointing and AFAIK it was bottled in 2010 making it at most a 12 year old. Travel retail price for it is £36.99 for a 1 litre bottle, so i wouldnt consider picking it up as you used to get the 16 for that price and you can get the 12 year old in the supermarkets on offer quite often for not much more than £20 and i known the 12 is good.
