i joined the forum recently as a tool to get information, help, knowledge and some understanding of whisky as i am a novice, hopefully i will learn to appreciate and understand whisky , this will take time and thirst !! Wink i would just like to thank the administrators for the great site they have produced and kept running smoothly , thankyou Smile i have sort of been collecting whisky for approx 10 years , gifts at christmas birthdays people saying thankyou for a job that ive done , so over 10 years the bottles grew , i started buying some and adding to the collection but i had not much of a clue about the whole thing, Confused i didnt know untill recently how many bottles i had ,how much they were worth, what were the collectable ones, what ones to drink and what ones to keep. i started trying to value my collection as 95% can still be store bought and came up with a conservative estimate of £2300 for 45 bottles at varied prices. so now catalouged i thought i would hunt down some more whisky to drink and collect hence a visit to mctears website , it has broken my heart , my collection seems pointless and worthless because of the unbelievable prices and quality of the whisky for sale in april catalouge , and no i dont work for mctears Exclamation well time to go thanks for listening Smile maybe see you on the 6th april if i can dodge work and the missus for a day Wink

I enjoy browsing through the auction listings at Mctears. There are always going to be bottles way out of most peoples price range but from looking at the auctions in the past there is always a few decent bargains to be had whether it is to drink or add to the collection.

Here is the link for anyone wanting to view the catalog for the next auction on the 6th April

Personally i am not into collecting Bells decanters but i noticed Lot 373 BELL'S DECANTER BROXBURN estimate £40 - 60 which to me would be a fair estimate but if you have a look on TWE they have the same Bell's Closing of Broxburn 1968 decanter for £332.80, quite a difference

that is quite a difference, not sure if you have spotted a bargain or TWE have gotten the valuation totally wrong.

Woodynd it breaks my heart too when i see whisky i want but cant afford.

That is quite a difference with the bells decanter estimate and the TWE price, i dont know anything about the value of the bells decanters but i wonder whos valuation is way out.

So who's bidding on the bells decanter
Personally I fancy some of the four bottle lots with stands as I want to build a bar in the garage when I've converted it .

The Bells decanters wouldnt be my thing but i think many people do collect them. It does look like someone has made a valuation error with it.

I always meant to get myself one of those classic malts stands but never did.

I see the hammer price on the Bells Broxburn was £25, whoever got it should try selling it to The Whisky Exchange who value it a £332 Laughing
