If the rumour is true is TWE are bound to take a bite out of Royal Mile Whiskies profits.

Tom Oddbins went into administration so i would think all there shops will be either closing or changing hands. Shame to see Oddbins go but it hasnt been the same shop in recent years as far as whisky choice is concerned. I am sure if TWE does open on the Royal Mile it will certainly take a bit of income away from Royal Mile Whiskies.

Interesting. The question is though, if they do open a shop there, will they be selling whisky at their internet prices, or will they jack the price up to take advantage of the tourist location?
I fear it would be the latter, as I am always astounded at some of the prices charged in whisky shops in Edinburgh. _________________ Rob Hughes

I am not defending some of the whisky prices in Edinburgh but i know the property lease prices on the Royal Mile are very high so you would expect the prices to be a bit higher. Although some will milk the tourists for all they can get.

I would say pretty much all of the shops in Edinburgh are over priced. Even shops away from the Royal Mile are pricey, such as The Whisky Shop on Victoria Street, which is pretty small and must be pretty cheap to rent is around £20+ per bottle over the odds!
I shall continue to buy my whisky from either he Society for my single cask fix, or from The Whisky Exchange online for my distillery bottlings! _________________ Rob Hughes

The Whisky Shop prices never cease to surprise me, don't know how they are a big chain! its just so expensive! laphroaig quater cask was on 'offer' £5 off for £37!! which is £10 more expensive than supermarket full price, mental

I wouldnt think any regular whisky drinker would ever consider buying from the Whisky Shop, it is not only there Edinburgh store with inflated prices, it is all there stores and online shop. I have never really understood there pricing policy, they could be doing so much better if they priced their whisky for whisky drinkers rather than pricing it just for tourists and the whisky gift market.
