I have come into possesion of some bottles of whisky. I believe they are old(ish) but no idea if they are worth anything or not.
They are
Macallan single highland malt. This is in a presentation box stating it is a 26 years old unique collectors item.
There is a label on the bottom of the box which says 10 yo 70
I am assuming this means it was 10 years old in 1970...?
There are some others, but I have no idea how to tell how old they actually are.
They are a bottle of Chivas Regal aged 12 years at time of purchase
A bottle of Crawfords five star aged 12 years at time of purchase
There are also 3 bottles of brandy, but this is clearly the wrong site for that!
I have no idea when these were actually purchased, but believe they have been in a cupboard for some time!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. |

Hi Attanasio
Have you taken a look over at The Whisky Exchange shop to see if they have any bottles similar to your bottes. They also sell brandy.
Crawfords 5 Star 12 year old was discontinued and would be difficult to find now but i think they do sometimes come up for sale at auction for around £60 - £100
The Chivas Regal 12 will certainly be worth more than a standard bottling today, value is dependent on when it was bottled and condition.
The Macallan will be the most valuable bottle you have, what does it say exactly on the label of the Macallan bottle. |

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Pretty difficult to describe a label, wish I could upload a pic.
It has a cream label and has The Macallan single Highland malt scotch whisky on it
it says it is 10 years old.
But the label on the bottom of the box says 10 yo 70! does this mean it was 10 years old in 1970? That would make it over 50 years old!
There is a a bottle of the Chivas Regal on that site you mention, but the label is slightly different.
I know this is isn't much to go on, but I could email you some pics if you like..
Thanks again. |

Hi Attanasio
Whisky stops aging when it is removed from the cask and put in the bottle so if the label on the bottle says it is 10 years old then that is what it is. I wonder if the 70 on the box is refering to the bottle size, perhaps 70 cl? What is the bottle size on the label.
The presentation box which states it is a 26 years old unique collectors item doesnt seem to match the bottle which states it is 10 years old, perhaps this is not the bottle for this box.
Photos would help, here is a useful post telling you how to post a photo

Your probably right, I didn't know about the not ageing after it was bottled. I wasn't really bothered about it being worth a lot, just didn't want to open it just in case, as I would have given it back to the person who gave it to me if it had been valuable..... Looks like it's time for a little drinky!!!
Thanks for your help, much appreciated. |
