| Sorry for the irrelevant post, but I was just wondering if you also drink cognac, apart from single malts. Cognac was my introduction to spirits before I got into whisky, and while I now prefer single malts for their character and variety I still enjoy a good cognac. At the moment my cabinet includes a Hine Rare VSOP and a Croizet XO, both of which are excellent and unusually good value compared to the exorbitant prices of some other brands! |

| ye every now and then. I find cognac a bit like blended whisky - very drinkable and nice but doesn't seem to capture the 'wild' element of single malts. good after wine and a big roast dinner whereas I prefer whisky after beer |

I enjoy cognacs. Looking forward to trying some new ones over the next few months.
I prefer Ferrand but have trouble finding it here in Tennessee. I also want to try the Germain-Robins brandy out of California. It gets rave reviews. _________________ Dave |

| I have tried one or two although enjoyable i couldnt get into it in the same way as malt whisky which i think offers me more complexity and varied style. |

Exactly, cognacs don't really have the character that single malts have. In many ways cognacs are exactly the same as blends, since most cognacs are blends of lots of different ages of spirit, not to mention types of grape and regions. The last few years have seen the emergence of artisan houses that handle all aspects of production themselves, but I haven't tried any. |

It looks like The Whisky Exchange used to stock that cognac so you can always try them. As for cocktails involving cognac, I only really know of brandy Alexander. |

If you want to make a cocktail from Cognac I would reccomend the 'Borodino Berry'. 50ml Cognac, 15ml Chambord, handfull of blackberries. 10ml Lemon Juice and 10ml soda. 1/2 tea spoon of vanilla sugar. To make, muddle (mush) teh blackberries, sugar and lemon in a shaker. Add the Chambord, Cognac and a load of ice and shake hard. Strain into a rocks glass, top up woth soda and enjoy.
This is basically a Cognac version of the 'Bramble', the gin based modern classic created by Dick Bradsell. _________________ Jonny

I have tried some cognac, but I don't like it....I can't say that it was bad, but I found whiskey is much better...its aroma and flavors are smth unbelievable |
