I'm new to single malts
So far I've tried the Aldi (Dalmore) 12 years old which is very nice
Jura 10 years old, which I find nice and light, but still a nice dink
Just bought a bottle of Jura Superstition, and I'm not sure about it. The smoky taste seems a little bit artificial, like it was added afterwards
I know nothing about whisky, so I'm just looking for recommendations |

Welcome to the forum. If you want to give mild smokiness another try, you could try Highland Park 12 years old - it's a cut above Jura in my opinion. The smokiness is balanced by a delicious sweetness and it's a great all-rounder. Other great affordable malts:
Balvenie Doublewood: no smoke in this one, it's rich with very satisfying woody/spicy undertones.
Old Pulteney 12: This has a so-called 'coastal' style - it'll definitely taste saltier than the others.
If you're looking for another light, easy-drinking malt similar to Jura 10, try Glenmorangie 10 or Glenlivet 12. They're not the most complex whiskies around but are very pleasant and smooth. Glenfiddich 15 is also worth a try - it's probably the best of the core Glenfiddich expressions.
My personal favourites out of these are the Highland Park 12 and Balvenie Doublewood. |

Welcome to the SMW forum jools182
I am not sure if you dont like peaty whisky or you just werent keen on the Jura Superstition, TBH i dont rate Jura very highly but when you find it on offer it ok.
Interesting that you say the Aldi 12 year old is Dalmore, i hadnt heard that before.
I would also recommend the 2 Alex suggested - Highland Park 12 and Balvenie Doublewood. Others i think you may like which are often found at a decent price are Macallan 10 Sherryoak, Glenfiddich 15, Glenfarclas 15, Aberlour 10, Aberfeldy 12, Glenlivet 12 and 18, Glenmorangie 10 I could go on |

| I also forgot to mention Dalwhinnie 15, a smooth and sweet whisky that Sainsbury's offer at a ridiculously low price at the moment. |

thanks for all the replies
I think its just the Jura Superstition I'm not sure about. Something tastes slightly artificial about it
Just tried the origin again and I like it, but I think I want to try something else thats a bit more complex and peaty
So I think my original post may be a little misleading. I think I like the complex, spicy, peaty flavours. The stuff from Aldi is indeed a Dalmore 12 year old, and I'd say it's probably my favourite so far |

| In that case for complex/spicy you can't go wrong with the Balvenie Doublewood. Glenfiddich 15 would fit that description too. So would Highland Park, but of course that's more peaty. For peatier than that, you can try Talisker 10, which has a completely unique flavour profile. |

| As you like the Dalmore i would say try the Balvenie Doublewood, Macallan 10 or Glenfarclas 15. And for a lovely bit of peppery spice i would recommend the Talisker 10 . I you fancy a very peaty whisky then take a look at Ardbeg 10, Lagavulin 16 or Laphroaig 10 |

I would add Springbank 10 to the list to try as well. _________________ Dave |

Glenfiddich 18 - £31.50 | You will find all the big supermarkets have a lot of good whisky offers at the moment in the run up to Fathers Day. Another good time for whisky deals is the run up to christmas, both good times to stock up as it can save you quite a bit throughout the year. |
