Hello,
New to the forums and relatively new to whisky as well.
Have a limited-ish budget for spendees. Can afford a nice bottle once a month so with pay day coming up have been scouring the supermarkets looking for deals on single malt.
See Sainsburys have Bowmore Legend on offer for 20 notes. I have tried the standard Bowmore 12 year old offering and it is probably my favourite Islay.
Would I like the Bowmore Legend?
Am wary of assuming they will be similar as have had an experience in the past where I bought a Glenmorangie Bordeaux finish and found it undrinkable yet the standard Glenmorangie 10 is prob one of my favourite drinks.
Cheers

I think the 12yo is pretty decent, but although I haven't tried the Legend, I doubt you'd find it radically different. It's a 'no age statement' whisky, which means that some, if not all of the the vatting will be youngish whisky. Young doesn't mean poor by the way.Indeed, many fans of peated malts prefer there whisky younger as the peat character dimishes over time in the cask.
For £20 you can't really go wrong.
Look out for supermarket bargains leading up to Christmas. Waitrose have the best range.
NB Just checked out the Malt Maniacs Whisky Monitor Database and they score the Legend 79pts on average, with the 12yo averaging 80pts, so very little difference in quality according to them. |

Thanks David,
Decisions, decisions.
There are a few good deals on at the minute so no doubt i'll change my mind several times between now and tomorrow.
Tempted also by the Whyte & Mackay 13 which is on offer at 15 quid just now as well so we'll see what happens
cheers

| If you like the Bowmore 12 i am sure you will like the Legend. The Legend has a nice bit of peat smoke from start to finish but not as much as the 12, sweet, quite rich, a touch of honey and lemon. Many actually prefer the Legend over the 12, a great buy for £20. |

| I'm not professing to be any sort of expert, but I think the bowmore legend is excellent and always buy a bottle when I see it on offer. I'm sure you won't be disappointed |

Tesco have a lot on offer at the mo, nothing super but a lot 5 or 6 pounds off - I always go a bit crazy when balvenie gets under 30 ( 26 at the mo!) cracking every day dram would recommend it to anyone _________________ In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king |

I am one of those that prefers the Bowmore Legend to the 12 year old although i wouldnt say no to either of them
Tom, it is coming to that time of year again where it makes sense to stock up with the everyday drams from the supermarkets, more so now the way prices are creeping up. I got some Balvenie Doublewood from Asda the other day for £25, not sure if they will still have it at that price. |
