I have a bottle to commemorate 25 years Port Ellen Maltings ,there has been a loss down near to the bottom of the neck, any advice on how to stop this shrinkage ,also how has this affected the value.

bodger you could try Parafilm 'M' Laboratory Film, it is supposed to stop any evaporation and not take away the look of the bottle at the same time. Very popular with miniature collectors but it can also be used on full size bottles. I havent tried it myself but have heard good things about it. You will find some at Whisky Online

if the shrinkage continues it will certainly effect the value but you may not lose to much as the level stands at the moment as Port Ellen is very highly sought after and many would be happy to pay.

I have heard of the Parafilm 'M' Laboratory Film but never tried it myself, guess i have been lucky as i havent had any reason to try it..

bodger do you store the bottle upright? You probably do but i just thought i would mention it as some people wouldnt realize that laying the bottle on its side can effect the intregrity of the cork due to the strength of the whisky/alcohol.

I use this to seal sample bottles, i keep a bit of a library of any good stuff i have and so far the Parafilm has sealed my 100ml sample bottles perfectly with no evapouration to date and some of my samples are a few years old now.
