Hi,
My father in law was a SMD/Diageo manager and has a collection of Managers Dram whiskies which he is thinking about selling. I have contacted an online shop to see if they were interested but the valuations seem a bit low for some. Could someone help me out with what value they might have for private sale or perhaps in the whisky auction. I have listed them in 2 groups below as some of the bottles have discoloured labels - the glue on the labels has discoloured and cause black/brown spots on the paper, they are all the same style of label and are from around the 1990's.

All the bottles are Managers Dram

The bottles with the discolouration are:
Glen Elgin 15YO
Oban 13YO (1990)
Ord 16YO (1991)
Cardhu 15YO)
Caol Ila 15 YO

The bottles with the good labels are:
Mannochmore 18YO
Glendullan 18YO
Dailuaine 17YO
Aberfeldy 19YO
Cragganmore 17YO
Teaninich 17YO (2001)
Blair Atholl 15YO
Clynelish 17YO
Linkwood 12Yo
Oban 19YO

Thanks,
Gillian

Hi Gillian

You can have a look in the specialist whisky shops but this will be the shop price you see, which includes taxes and the shop mark up. In a private sale or auction you would probably only get around half of what you see these bottles selling for in a shop. I am guessing the online shop you contacted offered you around half the amount that you see these bottles selling for.

A good place to look for a valuation is McTears auction site. If you visit this page:
http://www.mctears.co.uk/search.aspx?search=&id=0c5a6b14-f82b-474d-80e3-1869b3d6079a

Enter Managers Dram into the search box and select "All past auctions" you will find some of the bottles you have. You could also contact Mctears with a view to selling and they would give you an estimate. Another auction worth contacting is Bonhams in Edinburgh.

A new auction site is Scotch Whisky Auctions, not sure when there next auction is scheduled for but there auction cost are low, you will find them here:

Thanks for that, I will have a look at McTears and see if I can spot any of them.

Thanks,
Gillian
