I'm afraid I'm not a connoisseur , is there much of a difference in the batches of abunadh , I have tasted four or five different batches myself and as I remember they were all great whiskys ! Are they consistent in strength and taste , any opinions welcome!

Cheers Alan. Wink

Alan by its very nature each batch will vary, no 2 batches will ever be identical. All that i have tried have been ok and some very good. Very good batches IMO are batch 19, 20, 23, 26, 28, 29

The best 3 abunadhs i have had are batch 14, 20 and 29

i thought 25, 27 and 32 wasnt so good.

More recently 33 and 34 being the most recent bottlings i have tried were good, but if i was to choose between the 2 of them 34.

Not sure what release they are up to now but batch 34 is the latest one i have tried.

Cheers

Mark

Mark,

How much of those 2 (14,20 and 29) did you drink exactly?

I recently had Batch 35 in Elgin and then 36 at the Whisky Lounge event. Both excellent and none of the sulpher which is the main concern. Anyone done comparisons of several batches at the same time?

I have never had more than 2 different batches opened at any one time, usually when one bottle is coming to an end and just starting the other.

OK, random question about the A'bunadh: on the box and the bottle it says 'single cask maturation' but is that true? I read online that it's blended from different barrels, and also if it were single cask wouldn't it carry the cask number?

So are Aberlour 'cheating' a bit or do they mean it's made in the style of single cask bottlings without actually being single cask?

Alex i always understood the Aberlour a'bunadh was a small batch bottling, meaning a small number of casks are blended together. It is bottled at natural cask strength with no chill filtration. I assume they add a bit of colouring as Aberlour are known to use it, but i cant say it is noticeable.

I agree the new packaging which they brought out around Batch 30 (i think it was) causes a bit of confusion with its statement "SINGLE CASK MATURATION" but then it says "IN SPANISH OLOROSSO SHERRY BUTTS" the use of the word "BUTTS" plural tells us there was more than one cask going into the batch.
