I thought i would give this one a mention for those of you who may be looking for something special for christmas.
I had the pleasure of tasting The Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 1 when it was released back in 2010 and I thought it was an outstanding dram, one of the best Balvenies i have tasted.
Balvenie Tun 1401 batch 2 is a vatting of seven bourbon casks and three sherry butts the oldest is a 1967 cask, the majority of casks being from the 1970's and the youngest being a 1989 cask, they were all married together in tun - number 1401.
You may have seen the Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 2 availble recently in the specialist whisky shops, i think many have sold out of there stock so you may have to shop around to find a bottle but dont leave it to long as i dont think it will be around much longer.
Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 2 is for the UK, Europe, Asia, and South Africa markets and is made up of 10 casks, mostly from the 1970s with one from the 1960s and one from the 1980s.
There is also a Batch 3 which is similar to batch 2, but was made for US distribution only. Due for release Fall 2011.
There is a batch 4 on the way which will be married for 4 months (the first 3 batches were married for 3 months) Batch 4 will be exclusive to travel retail.
Anyway batch 2 has an RRP of £150
Read more, a tasting notes and a good video on the creation of batch 3 here:

Tried Batch 2 recently - lots of very complex and interesting notes in there - nutmeg, cinnamoon, dark chocolate as well as some zesty elements. Still however clearly The Balvenie with those signature honey and heather tones thoughout. Delicious and at £150 actually really rather good value. _________________ Jonny

| Did anyone else spot the mistake at the beginning of the video, the dialogue says that batch 3 will be released "Fall 2012" but the end titles says "Fall 2011" |

Yea looks great, the problem is getting hold of some. Looks like it is sold out already. I suppose 3000 bottles will not go too far when spread between the UK, Europe, Asia, and South Africa. The only shops that seem to have any stock of it is the sleazy profiteering online whisky shops. I saw one selling it for £275 and another for £400 |

I think i will look out for balvenie tun 1401 batch 4 travel retail bottling in the new year. |
