Has anybody had this recently in the 46.3% abv bottling? I find it to be a tremendous whisky and well worth seeking out if you haven't.
I thought I read somewhere that they were discontinuing this bottling in 2012. Can anyone confirm or deny? |

| I totally agree the Bunnahabhain 18 is superb. I havent heard anything about it being discontinued. The 46.3% version was only released in 2010, it replaced the old chill-filtered version which has been discontinued. |

I have read also that the Bunnahabhain 18 year old will be phased out and replaced by a vintage bottling in 2012. Cant remember where i read it but i dont know if it is true or not.
Personally i would rather it stayed with the age statement. It would be an odd move if they do replace it with a vintage as the Bunna 18 has been very successful in picking up the awards since it changed to the 46.3% non chill-filtered version. It has earned itself a good reputation so it would be odd to replace it as many malt whisky drinkers would not realise the vintage bottling is the same whisky as the age statement bottling. |

| Its the first i have heard of it. I cant see any mention of a change over to a vintage bottling on the Bunnahabhain website. |

I called them up and they say the 18 yr expression will continue.
I just remember the pain of the Highland Park 21 bottling moving from 47.5 abv to 40 and then taking the 1990 vintage.
That 21 47.5 was a very fine whisky, one I wish I had bought more of when it was available. |

i think someone said this on the malt advocate website but obviously as you have confirmed fine137 it is not going to happen.
I travel a lot and I miss the age statement Highland Parks at the airport, i never really took to the vintage bottlings |

The Highland Park 21 47.5% was excellent, i still have 2 bottles tucked away.
I think the Highland Park 1994 travel retail bottle is very good not had the 1990 |

let me know if you ever want to reduce your inventory! | I see The Whisky Exchange still have some of the short lived 40% abv bottling of the Highland Park 21 which just wasnt the same, i bought a bottle of this when it was released without realising that they had reduced the abv to 40%, it really pissed me off at the time. |

| I hope this isn't going off topic too much but I've just bought a couple of HP 21 47.5's at whiskysite.nl. The price is 125 euros (about £112). It was originally about £85 & TWE charge about £93 for the 40% version, so I didn't think that was too bad. Postage hurt a bit though...about £15. |

Apparently they made this move as stocks were running low but then they released the HP 1990. i have had 1 bottle of the 1990 and it is very good although i didnt have an old HP 21 to compare it with head 2 head. I noticed on the World of Whiskies site the HP 1990 vintage is not listed now, perhaps all stocks have gone and we will soon see a Highland Park 1991 vintage. |

The old HP 21 47.5 bottles will probably be a a good investment for anyone who can tuck some away for 5 or 10 years, personally i would end up drinking them. |

It is a pity that Highland Park got greedy and reduced the 21 to 40% then released the 1990 bottling at 40%. Didnt they put a spin on the move at the time and make out they were doing it for the consumers so there was more to go around.
This probably should have had a thread of its own, the Bunna thread has turned into a Highland Park thread. |
