Hi, after missing out on the Aldi 40yr special(??) and being over 40, I thought I would look at the best value 50 year old whisky around, price being a big factor.

I found Abbey whisky selling a 50 yr secret cask-Speyside for £224.10.

Will this be worth buying, the tasting notes seem good but they are selling it, I prefer Speyside whisky so this is very tempting.

Not looking for investment as this will be getting stashed away and cracked open for my 50th (7.5 years to go), has anyone seen any 50yr whisky under £225 or should I wait and see if Aldi sells one next year..?

Any advice would be great.

Cheers

not getting one cheaper than that ! youve got me tempted on those abbey ones now.. !

the HP 50 is a cool 10k... you could put away 1.5k a year until your 50 and have the best birthday ever ?

Smile

50 year old whisky is very rare to find and even rarer to find at £224, whether it will be any good or not, i cant say. I would ask myself how did a small shop like Abbey get hold of whisky of this age and why whoever they bought it from did not want to bottle it themselves.

If i had the cash to splash out on a 50 year old i would be considering the Glenfarclas 1961 Family Casks Release VII 50 Year Old they have over at The Whisky Exchange for £805, a mate of mine raved about this after trying it at the Whisky Show this year. It should be both very drinkable and collectable.
