Hi all. I'm after some advice and hoping one of you lovelies may be able to help. My Grandfather gave me a bottle of John Power and sons and recalls be given it in the 70's by an Irish aviation company.
I was wondering if anyone would know anything about it? Any information you may have would be great. Thank you |

Powers whiskey was originally a pure pot still whiskey but in recent times it has been a blended Irish whiskey but still contained a fair amount of pot still in the blend.
Today it is produced at the Midleton Distillery in Co. Cork as a blend of pot still and grain whiskeys.
There is a few expressions of Powers i know of - Powers Gold Label, Powers Gold Label 12 year old and only this year they released Powers John's Lane 12 year old which is a single pot still whiskey just like it used to be originally hence they named it after the location of the original Powers distillery in Dublin
What does it say on your bottle and do you have a photo you can post on here. |

That is your pictures sorted.
The pictures are not that clear but it looks like your bottle is 700ml.
In the UK up until 1980 standard size bottles were 26 2/3 flozs, they then changed to 750ml in 1980.
About 1991/1992 the EEC (or EU as they call it now) changed the standard size from 750ml to 700ml so this would definitely included Ireland.
It looks like a standard bottling of Powers Gold Label. Are you sure it dates from the 1970s. Does it mention the Irish aviation company on the label or/and box.
A pure pot still version from the 1970s would look like this:
I would have placed your bottle between 1992 and 2009 |

| Just an observation but the number of people who ask for help, advice, info on here seems to be on the increase, i guess it goes along with the increase in the popularity of whisky but the amount who fail to even respond to thank you for the help is unbelievable. |

| John, thank you so much for your help. I am sorry for the late reply, but due to a family bereavement the bottle and finding out more about it hasn't been on my list of priorities. The problem with my Grandad is his memory is shocking and after further questioning doesn't seem to remember being given it! |
