|

Hi all,
Looking for a quick reply before tommorow as i am need of ordering my dad a single malt whisky for christmas.
Am willing to spend about £40/50, and to give people an idea of what he likes is smoothness and smokey/peat scent/flavour.
However, i did by a bottle of Ardbeg last year for myself and he did not like the strong TCP taste/smell of the whisky, which im sure has ruled out my idea of getting the intended Lagavulin 16yr old.
Caol Ila 12yr old is the one i have in mind now, due to recommendations by some others.
Any ideas?
Cheers,

Hi
I would suggest something from Highland Park which is a great all round whisky with a touch of everything - sweet sherry notes, heather honey distillery character, just a touch of smoke. The Highland Park 12 year old is excellent or if your budget could stretch the Highland Park 18 is a very special whisky.

Hi,
If he likes the peaty/smoky without the medicinal nose and taste then try The Bowmore darkest 15, it still has a good amount of peat and smoke with a nice sherry sweetness.
The Ardbeg is probably the most medicinal Islay although some may disagree You could also look at something from Laproaig, Quarter Cask, Triple wood and the Cask strength are all well within your budget
Hope this helps,

Thanks all for replies,
However i decided to order him the Glendronach 15yr old revival for £40, so im hoping that will prove to be good stuff, due to the heavy sherry influence.
I also bought myself the a malt whisky for myself, which was the Glen Ord 12yr old discontinued bottling for £50. Always wanted to try this, and suprised there are so little reviews on it considering it's reputation of two consecutive ISCW awards and best in class up until 15yr olds.
Has anyone tried any of these two, especially the Glen Ord?
Cheers.

The Glendronach 15 is a decent whisky but personally for my money i would choose the Glenfarclas 15. If you get the chance to try thr Glendronach 18 it is excellent.
The Glen Ord 12 was ok,smooth and easy to drink, a lightly sherried dram with a bit of ginger and spice. |
