I have never really been keen on the idea of trying to pair whisky with food, i have always thought of it as being something a marketing department had come up with, trying to turn whisky into wine.

Having said that, i do like the idea of pairing a whisky with a coffee to finish off a good meal. It seems i am not the only one who thinks it is a good paring as Jura whisky has teamed up with Jura, the Swiss coffee specialists, to create a range of whisky and coffee pairings for the ultimate in indulgent after dinner experiences.

As part of the collaboration between the two brands, customers who purchase a new Jura coffee machine are offered a free taster pack of Jura whiskies, along with a pack of Jura coffee and a box of luxury chocolates, simply by completing and returning the warranty registration form.

For Richard Patersons suggested Jura whisky and coffee pairings and to view a short video of Richard talking about his pairings, see here:

I have never been keen on whisky and food pairing either, i enjoy my whisky by itself. But i do enjoy a decent coffee so i will need to pick up some Jura coffee to try with my Jura 10 and Superstition and give it a go.

I usually order a coffee and a whisky together when i am eating out while others tuck into a desert, i am not really a desert person. I drink the coffee closely followed by usually a big sherried single malt if they have one. Not sure if Richard Paterson is saying to add the whisky to the coffee or drink them together or one directly after the other as i would do.

I am sure he is saying drink the whisky alongside the coffee as you would lose the subtle flavours if you were just to pour it into the coffee, you would be as well to use a cheap blend if you were pouring it into the coffee.

My choice of pairing to drink side by side with a coffee is Talisker 10, probably because the coffee can over power a lot of milder character malts such as a light speyside malt.

Ages since i have had an Irish coffee
